Kiss Kiss Bang Bang's Shane Black Directing Cold Warrior

Veteran screenwriter Shane Black (seen above left), who most probably know as the director of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, will next direct a film titled Cold Warrior for Universal. Black has been dormant since Kiss Kiss in 2005, and this time he's not directing a script of his own. Cold Warrior's screenplay was written by newcomer Chuck Mondry and is being produced by Michelle Manning, David Greenblatt, and Anthony Bagarozzi. The story follows a spy from the Cold War era who comes out of retirement to team with a younger agent from the new school to confront a domestic terrorism threat orchestrated by Russia. I'm not sure whether this is a dark comedy or not, but it sounds like it'll be an action drama more than anything.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who thought Kiss Kiss Bang Bang was an unbelievably underrated film. So I must say it's great news to hear that Shane Black will be back at it again, although not with his own script. Black is also credited as being one of the writers who brought about the current era of action movies - he wrote the scripts for the Lethal Weapon series, The Last Boy Scout, and The Long Kiss Goodnight. I'm not sure whether Mondry's script will hold up in comparison to Black's own work, but I'm sure he trusts him enough to direct the film. This should be an interesting project to follow and hopefully it won't get buried by the studio just like Kiss Kiss Bang Bang did at Warner Brothers. For now, we'll remain optimistic.

Big fan of Shane's work. Nobody writes dialog better than his. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is a favorite of mine, so it's good to see Shane directing another movie.

He was the first soldier to die in Predator, too. As a writer taking on an acting role, he had a lot of guts.

^ Ha ha ha. Well played. I really liked KKBB, it had lots of style and just enough substance to warrant subsequent viewings. I hope this movie turns out alright.

KKBB was fantastic, witty, clever. Looking forward to whatever Shane Black is working on.

Anyone know why Kiss Kiss Bang Bang got shunned by the studio and swept under the rug? I loved that movie...

I'm going to spend New Year's Eve with Shane Black movies (Long Kiss, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and The Last Boy Scout). I love his dialog and the thematic elements of his movies. It'll be interesting to see him work off someone else's script.
