Mutant Chronicles Teaser Trailer

The Mutant Chronicles is a new independent sci-fi thriller starring Ron Perlman, Thomas Jane, John Malkovich, and Devon Aoki. It doesn't even have a distributor yet, but Thomas Jane is such a big supporter of the film and has wanted to get it out there, that he has put out an awesome teaser trailer for the film on his website. If you're a fan of science fiction or dark, explosive, moody thrillers, than you'll want to catch this. In a distant sense it reminds me of Dune, but I really just love its originality and independence more than anything. I've definitely gained some interest in this after watching the teaser trailer. The film will have a special screening at the San Diego Comic-Con this July, so if you're out there, be sure to check it out. Otherwise, watch the new teaser trailer and be sure to let us know what you think!

Watch the teaser trailer for The Mutant Chronicles:

The Mutant Chronicles

Earth's natural resources have been exhausted by mankind and battle rages between the soldiers of four leading Corporations: the Capitol, Bauhaus, Mishima and Imperial. Mitch Hunter and Nathan Rooker, battle hardened Capitol soldiers, fight a desperate battle against a Bauhaus advance. When an errant shell destroys an ancient stone seal, they find themselves facing a new enemy: hideous necrmutants, with boneblades that grow from their arms. Mithc barely manages to escape. Nathan does not.

The mutants multiply by millions and they destroy all before them. The Corporations' leader, Constantine, is about to abandon the planet and leave countless innocents to their desperate fate, when he is approached by Brother Samuel, leader of the Brotherhood, and ancient monastic order. Samuel is keep of the Chronicles, a book that prophesies both the rise of the Mutants, and the 'Deliverer' that will destroy them. Samuel believes he is that Deliverer destined to journey deep into the earth and destroy the source of the mutant scourge.

He manages to recruit Mitch, along with a handful of like-minded soldiers: Steiner, honor bound Bauhaus officer; sword wielding Severian; street fighter El Jesus; fearless beauty Duval; and stoic warrior Juba. "Mutant Chronicle" follows Mitch and Samuel's mission to venture into the very heart of the darkness in an attempt to save the planet from marauding hordes of deathless mutants.

The Mutant Chronicles is directed by filmmaker Simon Hunter of the 2000 horror movie Lighthouse previously with a script written by Philip Eisner of Event Horizon and Firestarter 2 previously. The film has been in the works for quite a while but doesn't have a distributor yet. As far as we know, The Mutant Chronicles is expected to arrive in theaters sometime later in 2008. The poster is featured below.

CG looks a bit weak. Also, those dudes over at CHUD totally called you out alex.
  • sneebee7
huh, interesting.... borrowed score (The Crow), recycled plot (matrix, others), and Thomas Jane...... what else can I say?! No thanks.
  • http://www.firstshowing.net Alex Billington
Called me out on what Nick? I'm allowed to have an opinion aren't I?
  • REAL6
I def wanna see this. It reminds me of that french movie "Immortal" in a way it was shot. WWI feel with some Mutants. COunt me in!!!
  • Guy
That looks like it'll be good fun. IMHO, how is the plot nicked from the Matrix? The Matrix was about discoving the world was a sham and fighting the machines that had enslaved humanity. MC appears to be more like a last hope to save humanity from mutants by destroying X/Y/Z. More Dirty Dozen or Guns of Navarone really.
  • karl
Looks good, I'll check it out.
  • Petra
Is the title supposed to sound ridiculous?
  • Jesse
This movie doesn't look like it'll be going into theaters. Looks perfect for dtv and the sci fi channel though. It could be the best sci fi channel movie ever!
  • Darrin
are they fighting fucking robots or something. anyway it looks alright.
  • rml
Although the story doesn't sound like Matrix, the synopsis transcribed above doesn't sound very promising. And adding Thomas Jane into the mix, doesn't help either. I have no problems with the CG, since eye-candy is great but it doesn't save a terrible story and I prefer a good tale with not-so-up-to-date visuals, than the other way around. But it looks a bit too dark, judging from the trailer. Gritty/dim/bleak looks are fine, but I prefer to be able to see what's happening and not just guess it. The title is quite unfortunate indeed... I might keep an eye out for this one, but not enthusiastically...

This looks pretty bargain bin at Walmart to me. It's sad to see John Malkovich reduce himself to cheesy CGI and over-dramatic dialogue. It really does look silly.
  • Guy
The title is because the movie is based on the Swedish RPG "Mutant Chronicles".
  • miracle disease
I'll check this out... this could be something "different"...
  • dac_fan
I thought it looked very good even though it had that damn Malcovich it it, man i hate him.
  • Xerxex
One simple phrase "Hidden Gem" wow the trailer looks amazing (Unless you pick it apart) Perlman, Jane and Malkovich look good and the girl didn't really see a lot of her but the teaser was intense, and its something new and hopefully original. A good lindy film for people who care, I'll be seeing this in theaters or on DVD if it only goes that far.

A must watch? This was awful!!

@nick: It sounds like whoever that was has a stick up their ass about getting scooped. It doesn't matter who asks a question at a press junket. If they get beat to a story, it's their own fault. Let's be honest here, AICN, Chud, First Showing... all of these sites and more all end up with the same basic shit on the front page every day. Most people either visit all of these sites, or none of them. There's not a hell of a lot of middle ground, in my opinion. This is news that gets disseminated very quickly due to the high profile of the Hollywood machine. The Chud people have a problem with competition in such a highly competitive field then they chose the wrong racket to get into. Not to mention this dude's "calling him out" for something he wasn't even there to witness himself? Sounds like a class act. As for the Digg accusation, I've submitted a couple of stories from this site on Digg myself. I wasn't aware I could be getting payed to do so. Alex? Care to cut me a check?
  • Kyle A. Koyote
Looks promising, could use some cgi rework, but that may still come. The style is the most interesting aspect for me. Definitely looks like a Western/WW style war movie...which isn't a bad thing. Serenity/Firefly borrowed heavily from the genre and turned out some good stuff, so I will check it out. It can't be as bad as half the movies out their, given the fact it has some solid people in it.
  • Tirrell
Damn, who this dude Nick on here like a angry lil bitch. "Oh they called u out Alex." Dude are you fuckin serious? Grow yo dumb ass up! Nobody wants to here about you running from site to site seeing who writes what movie news first, eat a dick. To Alex and crew keep doin the damn thang and shake these haters off. I love yall site and check dis shit often, plus yall do some fun ass shit at midnight and even if I don't come down there to compete in yall events its funny to watch others do it. Big ups for yall creativity & if ya did steal some people shit, hell big ups for that too rather read it from yall then them anyway. Oh and about the trailer. It looks aiight, kinda like a low, low, low, low, low budget Chronicles of Riddick.

Must watch? How about straight to DVD?
  • harrison
is this the gears of war movie? looks like WW2 era except with spaceships
  • E
isnt the guy who runs chud named Nick also .... ?
  • http://www.firstshowing.net Alex Billington
#9 - Darrin, read the synopsis underneath the trailer photo above... It explains that the people they're fighting are "hideous necrmutants, with boneblades that grow from their arms." Sounds pretty badass to me... I hope the budget wasn't too big of a constraint though, but it looks pretty awesome either way. Will be looking forward to catching this at Comic-Con!
  • brian
Why are all those big names in a made-for-Sci-Fi channel movie? What? It isn't a tv movie? Funny. it looks like one.
  • http://johnkuehlonline.blogspot.com John
I agree with Ryan at #20. This movie looked like a piece of flat out cheese. This looks like a career killer to me.
  • http://woodge.com Woodge
Looks interesting. I'd like to see a better produced teaser. But I agree that right now it looks like a straight-to-DVD flick. Still, I'd like to see it regardless. (Plus, I've always been a Ron Perlman fan).
  • bob jones
Doesn't look too promising - mainly because there's some pretty piss poor acting in the trailer - and that's just 2 minutes worth of highlights. I could be wrong - maybe it's out of context but usually when a handful of lines are delivered that poorly it means the dialogue wasn't exactly important. Also interesting is that almost none of the synopsis up top really translates in the trailer - it's almost like 2 different films. Looks like a direct to video film, to be honest.
  • Shige
To be honest I have no clue of what this whole thing is about. I saw the trailer and it looked like WW2 mission flick with mutants. Then I read the synopsis, did not understand anything at all and it still seemed like a WW2 flick. The trailer looked pretty coold though. Ill be watching this.
  • Conrad
I'm with number 2, they totally ripped off music from "The Crow". By the way, this movie looks like shit. Terrible camera work and cinematography (if you can classify it as that).
  • Shawn Gregory
I was so waiting to watch this movie. heard about it being produced by Edward Pressman (The Crow) & Paradox Entertainment (owns the rights to Conan, Red Sonja & Mutant Chronicles.) I believe MC was originally an RPG. Something similar to WARHAMMER. But the World portrayed in the movie is not Dark & Eerie enough. Anyways, this movie has influenced me to bring in kickass SCIFI/Action movies to my country. Now, how do I do that??? I will support this movie and i believe it will make a decent killing at the box Office. You guys should check out MUTANT CHRONICLES site. ..... well i sincerely like Thomas Jane's movies and I think he plays a better action Hero & leading man than many actors out there. Anyways, i read somewhere that this movie had negative reviews at Cannes, recently. But, heck them! It'll be decently GOOD!
  • Squiggly_P
The music in trailers is NEVER the music in the film, with exception to a handful of huge-budget flicks. This is due to the fact that the music is generally written after the editing, and when the first trailer or two is released, generally the film is either still shooting, unedited, or just beginning the post-process / effects stages. It's at this latter point when the film's score begins to get written, and as such is generally not available for the trailers because it doesn't yet exist. SO they borrow music from other movies that has the sort of vibe they want and use that instead. Now you know.

The plot was hardly nabbed from the Matrix since The Mutant Chronicles predates The Matrix by a substantial number of years. Punch it into wikipedia and you'll likely found a derth of information about the franchise which included an rpg series of books, a trilogy of novels, a table-top wargame, a miniatures line and at least one video game back on the nintendo (I believe). I'm excited just because the franchise was a cool concept. Shawn Gregory was partially correct in that it's kind of a Warhammer meets Cyberpunk setting. Huge corporations run everything and humanity ends up in a war with something horrifying that looks to corrupt them and destroy them from within and without. Here's hoping it can live up to such a storied background lore.
  • j_money
kinda hell boy-ish, especially with pearlman.... prolly minus tha humor
  • VegasDanny
I actually like Thomas Jane..(great turn in The Mist and proved he can handle action in The Punisher) but this movie looks like it has a budget too small for its ideas. Someone mentioned Pitch Black which was a low budget Sci-Fi Classic but only because it played to its strengths and had a great central character in "Riddick". I doubt this will see Theatres but worth catching on DVD
  • Smith
freakin awesome movie... if u liked resident evil or sin city i promise you, you'll have a fun 2 hour long ride... loved it !!! street kings, sarah marshall and this one here are so far the movies of 2008 for me, waitin on batman to join the list...
  • arthaxerxes
Just want to mention that a copy of this movie has already been posted on the web. Maybe it has already been in theaters elsewhere? Or maybe this is direct to video release?
  • Tetsuo
I'm sorry, but any movie with Devon Aoki (the walking cure to Yellow Fever) is off my radar permanently. That girl is stone cold ugly, distractingly so.
  • steven
Is it me or the movies are weird these days??.....(its a Rhetorical question!, u don't answer a Rhetorical question! :->). Thomas Jane is a good actor. He has the hero looks. Though guy, terrifying stares he can give u if u pissed him off (should have put him for the Hulk instead of Edward Norton). Very good portrayal as the punisher. Unfortunately, he is a good tool which is put to bad use. Also example... The punisher( movie which was down to earth because of the bad director). Also should have given evaluation for the role of Master chief for the upcoming movie Halo. Yet again he is put to the bad use,... in this movie...Sad.... I hope god light some shine on you Thomas Jane and change your fate...

Some of you are like most critics: Close-minded fools with NO Imagination, NO sense of adventure, NO idea of what entertainment value is, etc. Personally I think this movie looks great. Not sure what the story is, but if the action is in place, well, actions speak louder. But then I like movies that are entertaining, not really much of a drama queen like the critics seem to be. It's gotta be action, funny, imaginative. A good fiction movie breaks up the monotony life can be sometimes, and makes you think "what if?" I mean 100 years ago if you told someone what a television was what would be the reaction? 200 years ago they'd call you a witch and burn you at the stake. 1000 years ago you'd probably be considered a god or something. The point is who knows what the future will bring. With the problems the drug companies are causing with their so-called cures, they might create a race of mutants in 100 years. Anyway- Thomas Jane was great in the Punisher, I can't wait for the second one. Ron Perlman, well can't picture anyone else playing Hellboy, another great movie. I say to the non-believers, open your mind and live a little. Life won't stand still because you think you're opinion is the only one that matters.

Listen people...do you not know that this was a series of novels in the early to mid 90's? Do you not know it was a list of massively successful games from the 80's? This was before the wild popularity of the X-men. These mutants are different and far more complicated than X-men mutants. Furthermore if you have ever played the board game you know the movie has to at least be interesting. If you have not played the board game I pity you as it is one of the best board games ever made. Good luck finding a copy and I hope you do so you can appreciate something that is truly worth of at least a modicum of respect. All of you who made fun of the title need to do a little more research before you make a sweeping generalization. The title is quite appropriate to the content. Oh, yeah and this is based off of European story arcs and property...so for my fellow Americans who would rather watch Saw 45, the lame Batman Begins (Redeemed by Dark Knight a thousand fold I might add) or I Know What You Did Last Summer Next Week "In a Van Down by the River"(Thanks Chris Farley for such a great line)- Shut your mouths and watch the movie and enjoy a decent Sci-Fi flick with a lot of history.

This movie almost looks like Resistance the video game
  • AJ
I watched this movie ages ago from a bootlegged DVD a friend gave me. If you are a fan of very B-grade sci fi then you will like this one however, if you are looking for a polished movie avoid this at all costs.
  • Jen
I really liked it. Check reality at the door when you watch any movie. Just enjoy it for what it is, entertainment.
