With both the X-Men Origins: Wolverine and Star Trek trailers now unveiled, the first two weeks of next year's summer movie season are already starting to look absolutely incredible. To keep our attention focused on Star Trek, Paramount has debuted a banner for the film based on all of the individual black and white posters we've seen before. This is the banner I want up on my walls though, not those individual posters, because with this we get a gritty look at all 7 crew members of the USS Enterprise. In addition to debuting the poster, MTV has another brief, but important, interview with J.J. Abrams to top this off today.
Abrams addresses the connections between the original Trek and his version: "I think what you'll see is there are — both story-wise and performance-wise, visually and aurally — many connections to what is familiar and what has come before... For those people who are fans and who hope for or expect certain familiar nods, they will undoubtedly get those." And briefly addressing the comedy in the movie, Abrams says, "the humor in the movie is constant within the wit of the characters. And I think when you look at the original Star Trek show, there was actually a great deal of humor." Read more from Abrams on MTV.
Star Trek is directed by J.J. Abrams (of "Lost" and Mission: Impossible III) and is written by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (of The Island, Mission: Impossible III, Transformers, and Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen). This is the 11th movie in the Star Trek universe, following most recently Star Trek: Nemesis in 2002. Star Trek is set to land in theaters everywhere on May 8th, 2009 next summer!
