Little Ashes Trailer

Little Ashes is a biopic of sorts that follows artist Salvador Dalí, played by Twilight star Robert Pattinson, filmmaker Luis Buñuel, played by Matthew McNulty, and writer Federico García Lorca, played by Javier Beltran, in Spain during the 1920s. As much as I was curious to see a film about the life of one of my favorite artists, this doesn't look that good. It looks like it was shot well, on location in Spain, but that doesn't make a great film in the end. I'll still hold my breath and hope for the best, but unfortunately I'm not impressed. Though I know Twilight fans will still swoon over Pattinson all day long.

I think it looks very interesting...and beautifully shot. I'm curious why you don't think it "looks that good". I'm facinated with Dali, and I can't wait to get my eyes on a piece of film that really digs into his early years and what really happened between he and Lorca. I think this is going on my "must see" list.
  • Jo
I saw the film in London at Raindance and its an amazing film. Its impossible to fault. The acting, directing, cinematography, costumes and score are just perfect and I'm usually a picky devil. More fool you if you dont see it.

I forgot to say I'm not a fan girl of any actor but Pattinson was fantastic as Dali. Its a very brave performance. He shone.

I also saw the film at Raindance and Pattinson exceeded my expectation and is very convincing as Dali and as the film progresses he grows into the Dali we think we know.Pattinson and Beltran both give very intense performances and you totally buy into the Dali/Lorca relationship. The actors had great chemistry with one another. The sexual aspects of the story are handled beautifully. The scene between Pattinson and Beltran in the moonlit waters is so incredibly beautiful and it probably ranks as the most gorgeous looking scene I've ever seen. The cinematographer on this film needs a pat on the back as does the composer and costume designer. The scene where Dali watches Lorca make love to Magdalena sounds titilating but actually is a heartbreaking moment and Pattinson is incredible. The growing fascination between Lorca and Dali is beautfully played out and the script has obviously been crafted with care and attention. The director deserves much praise for handling this film with such tact and sensitivity and I hope it gets picked up for a decent cinema release.I wont spoil the end for people but its particularly tragic and Pattinson really shines in this key moment.
  • ayee, its faye
whoah, his mustache. looks interesting, though
  • Hyacinth
His mustache looks like Dick Dastardly's. I know Dali's didn't look as ridiculous as that. Fine. Maybe it did. But it looked eccentric on him. It looked weird on Pattinson. Oh well, I am a Dali fan. Surrealism rocks. Look forward to seeing it when it comes out.

Fire whoever produced this trailer. Film looks interesting. Trailer brings it all to ruins.

"As much as I was curious to see a film about the life of one of my favorite artists, this doesn't look that good." Exactly what went through my mind. I might see it on dvd if I hear good things.
  • jeffrey
I guess this film will be the "motor cycle diaries" of Dali's life. I for one will see this film and make no mistake it's because I want to see this kid as Dali. I'm just waiting for the full length bio pic about Dali. I think Adrian Brody should play Dali. Thoughts? By the way can't wait til CHE!!!!

This movie looks like it's being marketed as a made-for-TV movie, although I'm still interested in seeing it despite the trailer.

For real Dali fans try tracking down the original films that Bunuel and Garcia made with Dali - superb and cruel in equal measures.

Saw the film at a screening and Pattinson and Beltran had wonderful chemistry. Both actors really got the essence of the characters. Pattinson's role was harder as its so easy to go over the top but he pulled off a wonderful performance. A very brave interpretation. The film looks visually stunning and I found the time flew by. A totally engrossing and absorbing film. Fangirls of Pattinson will have much to enjoy. He makes a great on screen drunk and has excellent comic timing but is also just as good in the more emotional moments. I was very impressed with him. Javier Beltran was also excellent and has the larger role of the two but I'm not sure if he has that little extra something to make him a successful film actor. He does have wonderful soulful eyes though.

Film looks awesome. Ditch the american voice over dude though. Pattinson looks hot.

My online friend saw this in London and loved the film. Pattinson rocks in it. Brave bold and wonderful performance.

Pattinson is a very versatile actor. Cant wait to see this.
  • Francie
Pattinson is AMAZING!! I'm way more excited to see this movie than Twilight. And I hope he continues this sort of movies. He really is a great actor and very brave. I have so much respect for him!

I thought the story sounded interesting but the trailer is really lacking. After reading some of the above reviews from people who have seen the movie it has definitely piqued my interest. I'll have to watch for it.

The movie seems like an European-style version of Brokeback Mountain, or is it just me?
  • SillySil
Alex, you really hate anything that is related to Twilight, lol.
  • adrian
this looks very good actually, and this Alex Billington seriously has no taste in movies, SERIOUSLY. Anyway, this is the best example of how cold and distant digital looks compared to film. But it does look like a good watch.

wwhooaaa, this is the weirdest thing! i never expected a movie about salvador dali from the link or the picture (though I didn't know how he looked before, and then i searched him online, and i guess that is a famous pic of him?), let alone played by

  • Katharina Maly
I'm definitely looking forward to see this film - i hope that it EVER gets publish in austria, vienna .. if not i will probably have to watch it in london 😉 the film should be very interesting and i hope, that robert pattinson can act as eccentric as dali was (but i'm pretty sure, that he has the talent to do it - i think that he is a very multifarious actor). I would be happy about any further information about the film :)
