Sound Off: Zack and Miri Make a Porno - What Did You Think?

Now that you've seen it, what did you think? Kevin Smith is back with another raunchy comedy, this time a porn-infested tale of two friends who'll go to any lengths to pay their rent. Does it live up to all of Kevin Smith's previous films? Is it a truly entertaining comedy that mainstream audiences can finally enjoy? Or is it downright rude and too raunchy for anyone to find funny? Did Seth Rogen finally break out of his mold and show us something unique? Did Elizabeth Banks give a great performance alongside of Rogen? Is it really one of the funniest comedies of the year or one of the worst? To fuel the fire, I really enjoyed Zack and Miri quite a bit. I'll reiterate that my 9 out of 10 review from Toronto still stands in opposition to Kevin's 7 out of 10 review. Not only is Zack and Miri hilarious from start to finish, but in the end Kevin Smith shows us the sweeter side of things in a way that only he (and a naked Jason Mewes) can. It may even be some of the best roles to date for both Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks, who took on a challenge but delivered results that only few comedic actors can. I'll need more time to determine if I can really call it a new comedy classic, but I know I won't soon be forgetting Zack and Miri, which is rare when it comes to comedies these days. Bravo Kevin Smith!

I loved it. It was really funny and there was one scene that had people laughing for quite a bit after it happened. The "Pull-Out" shot. Great job.

Hmm, I can't wait to see it. I'm not sure when it is out in the Netherlands.... But I believe in Smith. I love his stuff and his personality.

I thought it was fantastic. I disagree with all the reviews that say the vulgarity seemed forced. I don't know, maybe it's jut because I'm younger, but it seemed completely natural. Plus, think about the surroundings. They're bum 28-year-olds, being shut out their apartments. Plus, people sware. It seemed natural. I also think they're chemistry was awesome. But, besides having great performances and a great script, it was one of those movies where I left really happy. It put me in a good mood, and it seems that some critics are against feel-good movies because they seem "conventional". I think that word is a cop-out for a reviewer. There are only so many endings a story can have, but if you can get there as originally, hilariously and tounchingly as Smith, Banks & Rogen do, then more power to ya. I love a good drama, but sometimes you just need a movie-pick-me-up. And this is the best one of the year.

the Justin Long and Brandon Routh was hilarious. the deep-raspy voice and the discussions he had.... can't wait for this on dvd. might go see it again in the theatre in a group.

I thought the movie was hilarious. However, to be honest the sex scenes took me a bit out of the film (especially the first one with Katie Morgan and Jason Mewes). I'm was just too used to Kevin Smith's humour being verbal, so when things turned visual I was like "WHOA!" However, once the oblivious customer showed up (I love Tyler Labine), I was back into the film. That aside, it's probably my second favourite comedy of the year (behind Tropic Thunder).

I did think it was very good, but I feel like near the end of the movie, you lost sight aof what it was really about: making a porno. The ending as it was seemed very abrupt to me, BUT it was saved by the scene after the credits. My only gripe is that I think there should have been a more immediate transition to that scene rather than running the credits first. 3/4 of the theater left before they saw the actual END of the events in the film. Overall I found myself laughing my ass off, and I was really taken by the relation Rogen and Banks developed on screen. Not my favorite Kevin Smith film, but certainly a good one for the repertoire. --IK (Also, good as Lester was, I miss Jay and Bob.)

Not only did I enjoy the movie alot, but my wife liked it a lot! She said it was her favorite of Kevin Smith's movies. Elizabeth Banks totally sells it. The most emotionally true performance in ANY Kevin Smith film.

IK, THe movie really isnt about them making a porno, its about 2 people realizing their feelings for each other. The porno is merely a vehicle for that to happen, thus its importance falling back near the end of the movie.

I saw this movie with my wife and for those who don't take their wives to a romantic movie then this may be the perfect vehicle for you to do so! Anyhow , she loved it and she is not a Kevin Smith fan. It is a love story with the porno being the backdrop. Unfortunately it wasn't sold as a movie like this and it may not get a huge audience. I thought it was hilarious and the crazy stuff that happens in the flick wasn't forced at all. Be sure to stay during the credits! Banks was amazing and showed alot of range. Justin Long was purely hilarious! Craig Robinson and Seth Rogen played the same chararacters they always have and that is a good thing! That poor camera man got it really bad! Utterly hilarious!

It was Was F***N Funny as Sh*T! The whole time i was laughing from Beginning to End. Although i didn't get to see the Scene at the end of the Credits (Son of Bitch) it was over all a really great Film. The story line was kinda catchy and it really flowed well with the movie. Seth Rogen did a wonderful job, as always, and His right hand girl, Elizabeth Banks, Just handed us a Well Done Performance. Kevin Smith is , Well to Me, probably one of the Best Comedic Directors Out There. Overall, Mostlikely a 4.5/5!!! Hilarious!!!!

I found it to be stupid. But then, I was one of the 3/4 of the audience who left before it ended. Do people really speak to each other like that? Do the writers have that limited of a vocabulary? F@#! and C@#!% and D@#$! those 3 profane words were voiced more in the 45 minutes I stayed in there, than in my whole life!! And I am not a prude...Loved Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Crude can be clever.... Miri and Zach...pure trash!!!

I saw a sneak preview a week ago and saw it again this opening weekend and I think it was even better the second time. The audience was laughing so loud during the preview some of the lines got stepped on and I found I had missed some. It's a wonderful mix of a movie where it is both a fantastic, raunchy and hilarious as well as being a really sweet love story. I don't know if I've ever seen anyone pull on screen chemistry as well as Rogen and Banks do in this film. I actually -believed- they could have been friends their whole lives.

There were some funny parts due to shock factor, but was not very good as a complete film. Liked Rogen and Banks but the story didn't seem complete. Nothing special.

Rayne, have you ever seen a Kevin Smith film. If your going to complain about the language then you sir are no Kevin Smith movie buff. Also why walk out of the theater. If the movie sucks, watch the whole thing then make fun of it with your friends afterwards. God some people are just wasting time breathing air.

Whether is was funny when Rogen was talking about "gay porn", or the "pull out" scene, it had giant boobs, it was hilarious, overall a great movie.

I loved this movie. The writing was very clever. I did think that the amount of actual pornographic material was a bit over the top. yes, I know, its about the making of a porno. There were moments though where it just seemed gratuitous. That being said, it was most definitely worth the time and money. Very funny.

I saw the movie today on a date and it was a great way to loosen up in front of someone. I thought it was funny. I didnt like the ending it left me saying thats it lol. All this shock value through out and then thats it i wish i stayed for after the credits to see the extra clip i just read about. F$@% !!! guess i will have to wait to see the dvd. So shocked Jason mewes yum and finally ladies we get to see full frontal of a hot guy oh yeah katie morgan was basically herself with a different name but Jason oh i'd see it again

Huge speciation for this movie I love it from the word go. Wow it was not about the porn. Some might get the feeling that is sexual packed movie. No way has this movie explained lots about the life challenges. They are finding solutions with making porno. Biggest case is they don't know really how to do it. Enjoyed much as I could, well made movie.

Totally disgusting movie!! I was both apalled and disappointed in Seth Rogan\\\'s lack of taste in doing this movie. After seeing him promote it on Jay Leno, he made it seem as though the worst thing about it was the fact that it had the word porno in the title. My husband even thought that they probably wouldn\\\'t show much. After all, it was rated R not NC17 or XXX, so I thought why not? It was like watching a XXX porno flick bought from an adult DVD store and I was embarressed to be the theater while the XXX scenes were going on. By the time the end came, when the 2 main characters realized they were in love, it was too late to save the movie. I was also shocked that the R rating was allowed to stand. What is this world coming to? BTW, I\'m not bashing porn altogether. My hubby and I own a lot of porn DVD\'s and toys but this movie was something that needed the NC17 rating and shouldn't even be in a family theater; it\'s too raunchy for the big screen. It\'s never meant to be seen by anyone under 17

I loved the movie saw it yesterday but for me the pull out shot was super sick funny but made my stomach turn at the sametime. It was very unexpected but nothing less from the great Kevin Smith.

I like Smith...but Rogen was a freaking waste. He is just not funny. AT ALL! Rogen will burn out soon, and I just can't wait. I thought it would be a good escape from the election coverage and get away, but Rogen is a waste of film.

Funny, funny movie. Not a huge fan of Rogen in anything he's ever been in, but he was ok in this. I'm assuming that was mostly due to Smith's direction. Banks was wonderful I thought, and the rest of the cast for the most part was very good as well. No problem with the R rating, people need to loosen up a bit. They could have maybe picked a better looking male lead, I couldn't really get my head around a girl like Bank's character ever wanting anything to do with a character like Rogen's, but hey. It probably wasn't the most realistic movie in the first place. I don't know about a purchase, but a definite rent and burn when it comes out on DVD. 7/ 10

One thing I will agree with however, that stupid should be terminal, in reference to you; but then you must be a guy. I agree with angryKID, this was the worst film I've ever seen!!!

Loved it from start to finish, and the haters should suck it, the gonads and the pubic hair. Kevin Smith has done it again.

ok so let me just start off by saying that this movie is one of THE BEST movies to come out this year. it was hilarious and extremely realistic. kevin smith really showed a realistic side to something that most would consider disgusting and raunchy. i will say that the sex scenes were a bit much, but they contributed to the plot and weren't just put in to show audience members raunchy sex. i truly believe that this is a great movie. and if you dont like it....go suck it.
