Universal Pulls Fast and Furious From Their Summer Line-Up!
by Alex Billington
December 9, 2008
Universal Pictures has pulled Fast & Furious from its original June 12th release date and moved it to April 3rd, making it a forgettable pre-summer release instead of the big summer event movie that originally it seemed it might be. I guess it won't be the big reboot of the Fast and the Furious franchise that everyone was hoping it would be from that first trailer? Universal also pushed back the release of their creature feature The Wolf Man from April 3rd all the way to November 6th, as was rumored a few weeks back. Seems like Universal is having some trouble figuring out what to do with their movies.
With this release date shift, Universal now only has 3 confirmed summer movies in their line-up: Drag Me to Hell on May 29th, Land of the Lost on June 5th, Public Enemies on July 1st, and potentially Bruno, if they decide to release it in the summer. No reasons were given for the switch, except a measly claim that it "was the sensible thing to do." I don't think if the reaction to this release date change will be too severe, considering most fans of the Fast and the Furious franchise will probably be excited to see it earlier. Although, to me, this does not seem like a confident move on their part. Only time will tell!
