Myriad Pictures Adapting Studio 407's The Night Projectionist

January 2, 2009
by Alex Billington

The Night Projectionist

Here's another classic case of a great concept but potentially bad execution. Myriad Pictures has picked up the rights to Studio 407's comic series The Night Projectionist. The story takes place on Halloween Eve in a small-town movie theater, where an all-night Draculathon draws crowds of moviegoers who suddenly find themselves locked inside the theater, which is slowly filling with vampires. That sounds like an awesome B-horror movie that someone like Quentin Tarantino should be bringing us. But based on Myriad's past films, that doesn't sound like it's what we'll be seeing in the slightest. Who knows?

Myriad's past credits include Death Defying Acts, which wasn't that good, Kinsey from 2004, and horror films like Jeepers Creepers 2. They've also got an adaptation of Studio 407's comic Hybrid in the works, too. I know I shouldn't be judging this before we even have a director or writer, but I guess I'm saying this is something I would've preferred to hear about once it was finished and already showing at some film festival. But maybe I'm just jumping the gun on this. I guess I'll just bite my tongue and hold out and hope for the best with this adaptation. And in the meantime, go pick up the comic, which hits shelves in February.

It sounds like that old movie Demons from the 80's where all the people in the theater turn to demons, but just subbing vampires in.

This does seem like something Tarantino should make…oh wait he already did and it's called From Dusk Til Dawn…
