Sandra Bullock Has Nuked the Fridge - All About Steve Trailer
January 8, 2009
Source: Yahoo
by Alex Billington
It's official - I'm declaring today that Sandra Bullock has nuked the fridge. Fox has debuted the trailer for a new romantic comedy called All About Steve and it looks absolutely awful. This is the exact kind of cinematic crap that Middle America eats up that only further stuffs the pockets of this industry (specifically Fox) with millions of dollars that could be better spent elsewhere. Sadly I know it's going to make a lot of money but I'm going to stand my ground in opposition to it, because this utterly useless waste of celluloid shouldn't even be in movie theaters at all. Watch this if only to fuel your rage as much as mine.
Watch the trailer for All About Steve:
You can also watch the All About Steve trailer in High Definition on Yahoo
All About Steve is directed by wanna-be hotshot filmmaker P.T. Dangle, who is making his feature debut with this after directing numerous shorts. The script was written by Kim Barker, of the also awful License to Wed previously. 20th Century Fox is bring All About Steve to theaters everywhere on March 6th. I'm truly hoping that everyone reading this will be watching Watchmen on that day instead of this.

Yes, this is a typical and very predictable romantic comedy but you shouldn't hate it so much. Millions of Americans like this type of movie not that it has any realism at all. But, that is the point of escapism. Everyone has the right to be entertained. Even smug wannabe critics in LA. Some people might even be dragged to it by their girlfriend even people that have seen even more films than any fanboy.

Why did everyone in this movie decide to dye their hair fake blond? It's weird. Anyway, whatever. Anyone has any news of movies I actually want to watch?

Come on Alex laugh a little! You know you chuckled when Thomas Haden Church said "What? Did somebody fall in the mine?" and started laughing, funny. And when Keith David was rewinding it Don't ddeny you know you were!

The end of that trailer made me chuckle. Not something I would see in theatres, but it doesn't look horrible. It's official–Alex Billington has nuked this review. Another terrible review. At least this guy has stopped including The Dark Knight in every single unrelated thing he writes–though it does look like he's starting to do the same thing with Watchmen.

What fuels my rage is that dumb term "nuked the fridge". Please don't. It's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. There was a lengthly discussion about it over on DVDTalk.com Everyone there gave it a huge thumbs down over there too.

Also….this doesn't look THAT bad. Sure, I won't run out to see it. But there is an audience. And there are far worse "comedies" out there. "BrideWars" comes to mind. Currently at a 0% on RT. Or "Four Christmases".

Okay. I've watched a ton of terrible trailers this year, but this is the only one I didn't even crack a smile at. Seriously.

"This is the exact kind of cinematic crap that Middle America eats up … this utterly useless waste of celluloid shouldn't even be in movie theaters at all."
Statements like this make me grateful we still live in a free society where people get to decide for THEMSELVES what they will see rather than be force fed what some wanna-be elitist decides what's good for them. God bless the free market!
That said, I'm avoiding this movie like the plague.

She looks kinda old in that movie with Ryan Reynolds too. Pretty soon, she'll be resigned to playing the young lead character's wacky mom, which I'm fine with. It's not the end of her career, maybe the end of her 15-year stretch of countless romcoms.

This movie will be pretty funny. I'm not saying it's going to be good, just funny. The supporting cast looks pretty decent. I saw DJ Qualls, Thomas Hayden Church, and Kevin James's brother in there.
If you think about it the funniest parts of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days are when Kate Hudson is being a clingy freak. This movie is essentially about that character, and Bullocks character looks like a sarcastic version of Hudson's character in How to Lose a Guy.
With that said, as far as romantic comedies go you can tell just by the previews that its going to rely on implausibility and slapstick for humor instead of a genuine wit.

Alex Billington overreaction!!!
I think it looks like a funny, cute little movie it may not have anything to do with a comic book superhero, the type of movie that only internet bloggers write about, but this film looks very entertaining and well done on Bullock for being able to still make these movies and be very sucessful at them for so long.

Recent studies have shown that viewing too many romantic comedies creates unrealistic expectations in their viewers.
(All Scientists involved in studies live at home w/ their moms & haven't been out on a date in a bit, as well.)

I wouldn't go see the movie and I'm from middle America…But I want the option to go see it…I will watch it once it hits T.V. and my girl will probably like it…Alex and people like him should learn that they only speak for themselves also. Why do we need people to tell us what to see and not too see? How easy a job is that. Get a real skill like us Middle American's. Sandra Bullock is looking kind of old and I'm finding that sexy! I think she's hot now!

Well, I don't quite get it. You say that this movie "…looks absolutely awful" which I agree but when referring to the movie FIGHTING you say "…it looks pretty badass. So is this a gender-switched All About Eve remake, or just a bad takeoff of the title?
These naff films can be alright for an entertaining night in with friends and some drinks (anyone see Mr Woodcock, etc?), where it's an amusing sideline but maybe not ultimately the only reason for you being there…. but I don't get how you'd bother to watch it in the cinema when you can't happily chat away to your pals, share a pizza, or have a drink other than 40 fl. oz. of watered-down soda.

As far as that goes, she is bringing comedy and fun into the world. Those who complain, what are you doing to bring comedy into the world and brighten somebodys day with laughter? Alex, License to Wed was a stinker, but this trailer was funny. (Even the trailer for LTW was lame.) You seem to think that American Cinema is all about dark adaptations of freakin' comic books. Believe it or not, there's room for more than that, lotsa room. I'd certainly rather see Bullock exercising her comic chops than watch her make the mistake of playing some morose freak from another planet.
And to all like Alex who complain romantic comedy is predictable… That's like complaining that horror films are scary or that comicbook films follow the edicts of that genre:
"Can you believe it? Another disaffected superhero with superhero powers!? What!? He defeated the villain!? Bo-o-o-oring."
Believe me, that's been done to death, but Alex and his ilk line up for the stuff.
So, if romantic comedy isn't for you, don't see it. But admit that you don't like the genre, then go buy your tix to the next ComicCon and crow about what you know instead.
