Marc Webb Developing Adaptation of The Spectacular Now

Marc Webb is well on his way to becoming the next big young filmmaker, with his directorial debut, 500 Days of Summer, getting plenty of mention at Sundance. But as is always the case in Hollywood, even before his first film comes out, we've got to start asking him about what's next. And next for Webb might be an adaptation of a book called "The Spectacular Now" written by Tim Tharp that hit bookshelves just last October. Webb told SlashFilm just the other day that the same two screenwriters behind 500 Days of Summer, Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, are back adapting this book for Fox Searchlight again.
"It's a really fantastic novel about a 17 year old charm monger who drinks too much. And it's about how he's negotiating the world of growing up. It's a very realistic portrayal of what it's like to be a kid. And it has a very frank depiction of sex, alcohol and that sort of thing." You can pick up a copy of the book on Amazon. Those of you lucky enough to have seen 500 Days of Summer know that this new project sounds like the perfect fit for Webb. It's only in the writing stage at the moment and isn't confirmed for his follow-up just yet. I'm anxious to see something like this get fired up right away, because I can't wait for more Marc Webb brilliance!
