Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck's Sugar Trailer Debut

If you love baseball, this is the movie for you! Sugar follows Dominican born baseball pitcher Miguel "Sugar" Santos (played by Algenis Perez Soto), who gets recruited to play in the minor leagues in the US. It's an incredible look at the life of these born-to-play baseball players from the Dominican Republic and the culture shock they get when they arrive in America to start playing in the minor leagues. As great as this film is, it really doesn't go anywhere in the end, which left me a bit unsatisfied when I saw it at Sundance last year. But if you love baseball and/or just want to see a great character study, Sugar is a film not to miss.

Sugar is both written and directed by husband and wife filmmakers Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, who made their break out debut with Half Nelson a few years earlier. The film first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival back in 2008 and struggled to find a distributor, but was eventually picked up by Sony Pictures Classics. They are finally bringing Sugar to limited theaters starting on April 3rd this year.
