Seth Rogen Says His Green Hornet Movie is Still On
January 28, 2009
by Alex Billington
A few days ago we ran a rumor about The Green Hornet being canned by Sony. According to a recent update from the film's writer and star, Seth Rogen, that rumor just isn't true. Rogen contacted HitFix (the guys who reported the original story) and assured them that Sony still has every intention of making it. Apparently Stephen Chow's decision to leave as director might have caused a few people to lose their confidence and start questioning whether it would still get made, which is why a few of them thought it was being canned. But if Rogen has anything to do with it, and he does, it'll still happen as planned.
"[The studio heads] have every intention on making it, and assuming we're able to hire a new director in the upcoming weeks, which seems like a distinct possibility, it should still hit the release date," Rogen told HitFix. Not only is he starring in the film and co-writing it, but he's also producing, which means he has more than just a strong say in what happens. And may I remind you that Sony did put out a logo and set a June 25th, 2010 release date. As I said originally, it's very rare to see a studio do something like that, then back out entirely. But it sounds like they're still trying to figure things out and get this made.
So as far as we know, it looks like Sony is still moving forward with The Green Hornet and they're trying to find a new director. And according to AICN, it looks like Stephen Chow also still remains attached as Kato, contrary to other rumors. Like it or not, we'll be seeing Seth Rogen's Green Hornet in 2010.

Still BS, he looks like a geek. he wont suit the role. Luckily steven chow opted out coz he knws hollywood r shit compared to chinese style. I recommend chow should make his own version that way he will get more publicity.

Omg i just got the call. lol. This is great. Never listen to rumors. Or never listen to the truth. …. I can't remember.
They should get Nick Cage to direct. Sonny wasn't that bad. Cough Cough.

That's such a joke. Seth is not a bad guy but for this movie it's a horrendous idea. Be like Adam Sandler directing or something. Just not the same league.

Oh my God no! I had just let the students know of the amazing news and now this. btw 92% were happy Rogen was out. Goes to show young budding film makers DO have an eye for talent. I think Alex did this on purpose knowing what mess the last thread was concerning the Hornet.

Green Hornet movie should be a SERIOUS movie. Not a COMEDY. Yes I did watch the original Green Hornet TV Show and it reminds me more of a noir than a campy show. Seth Rogen is a funny guy, but he should not touch the Green Hornet franchise. It is like having Steve Carell play as the Batman. Even though that would be funny, it does not stay true to the source material. My idea of a Green Hornet movie would be more like Dark Knight with color correction, making it green like the Matrix.

OH MY GOD HERE WE GO AGAIN! May have to boycott Sony due to the beloved Green Hornet being DESTROYED by one of the Worst in Hollywood. Agree, Alex why do you HATE us, we who despise this un-funny Rogen. What is worse, he is writing this? I cannot remember The Hornet being a Stoner. No, please NO! It will be so bad, it will go straight to DVD, or only shown in Canada.

#7 ! 92% of your students think Rogen sux? Good enough for me. He is bad, booooooobad. I will go with the more educated youth of America than the other choice. Ands we all know what that is. Wait for it, here it comes!

Ya mean the 12 and 13 year olds commenting on the last thread where Mr. Billington tricked us all?
OK, I am waiting for it too.

Goota admit this is a bad idea. Who would want to direct this anyway? Chow left because Sethers just didn't get it. He is a poor choice for any comic/tv hero.

Rogen is one of the orginal "triangle of horror". What is next? Ben Stiller as Cap America and Nick Cage as Thor. ( the other 2 of the triangle) GOD DAMMITT!!!!! Well, I was happy for 48 hours or so. Damn depressing. Thanks for nothing Sony!

Number 15—my point exactly. This "actor" is just wrong for this part. Could you imagine what it was like with Chow and Rogen discussing this? Creative diffrences is right due to the first report. And Rogen's writing? Damn right Chow got the Hell out. And I like this triangle thing. The Frenchman R. Buttons I don't think will.

Just came back for q quick poll for a lesson plan. Looks like 2 out of 19 comments are for Lame Boy to continue. Just almost MIRRORS the poll in class today. Thank you America! (and wherever else) So in reality just one, since Red Button's vote does not count. ( he's French you know and hates the Irish) So we are at 98%. Rogen is wrong choice or no talent for anything. Sweet! Thanks FS Fans! Back to work!

Without Chow, this movie means nothing to me.
The Hornet is dead and Rogen has killed him!

^^ i meant without Chow as director.
Putting Rogen and Chow on the same screen will give a few people a rude awakening on who the talent in this movie really is.

Give it up Rogen, the script is already finished…LOGLINE:
Driven by the murder of a close friend and the realization that his media empire is infested with ruthless heroin smugglers, Britt Reid, as the masked crime-fighter and his human weapon Kato jump into action on a heart-pounding quest to rid the city of this mob once and for all.

Having this Seth Rogen guy (none of whose movies I've ever knowingly seen–and the good lord willin', it'll stay that way!) play the Green Hornet is about a great an idea as Jack Black playing Green Lantern, which was an actual possibility a few years ago.
Oh well, as the 90's Shadow and the recent Spirit show, Hollywood has no idea how to handle this kind of mystery man character anyway.
Just let GH stay in limbo rather than insult a great old concept and character.
