Emily Blunt Pulled from Iron Man 2 for Gulliver's Travels?
January 29, 2009
by Alex Billington
Now this really sucks. Variety is reporting that Emily Blunt and Jason Segel are both in negotiations to join 20th Century Fox's Gulliver's Travels comedy that will star Jack Black. But there's the catch. We reported a few weeks ago that Emily Blunt was rumored to appear as Black Widow in Iron Man 2 - apparently not anymore. "Fox holds an option on the actress that was part of her deal when she co-starred in The Devil Wears Prada, and the studio may invoke it to see that she takes part in the giant tale." What is it with Fox and their damn legalities?! Thankfully her situation isn't as dire as it initially seems.
Blunt's reps are trying to work out her schedule so that she can still play both roles, but it's a problem because the shooting schedules for both overlap. Gulliver's Travels will shoot in the UK in late March, while Iron Man 2 is expected to begin shooting in early April in California. Variety claims that as of tonight, her reps are optimistic that she can still take on both projects. I really think Blunt is a fine actress and I was excited to see her join Iron Man 2. Marvel really needs someone strong to take on the role of Black Widow because of how important her characters eventually is in relation to the Avengers in the end.
Gulliver's Travels, on the other hand, is to be directed by Rob Letterman and stars Jack Black as Lemuel Gulliver, a travel writer who takes an assignment to the Bermuda Triangle and washes up on the island of Lilliput. Jason Segel would play Horatio, a Lilliputian who helps rescue Gulliver when he's captured. Emily Blunt would play the island's princess and love interest in the film. Although that concept may sound funny now, given it's coming from Fox, I'm sure it'll be the next big Night at the Museum-like movie that I know really I'll hate in the end. So to put it frankly, I hope she ends up appearing in Iron Man 2.

What's with your fox hating. The Gulliver's Travel actually sounds like, just maybe, it could be good.
Hopefully she'll do both, though.

As stated in the article about Fox nabbing the rights to the Narnia flicks, they made Eragon. That's enough said.

Yeah, but what studio HASN'T made a film just as bad as Eragon. The lone exception would be Pixar.

Fox sucks.
They are a terribly run movie company.
May they rot in hell forever for even daring to fuck with Watchmen.

It is very safe to say that as of now Hollywood would be much better off without Fox

How can they even call that Gulliver's Travels ? Seems like the only thing in common with the book is the small people.
