Slumdog's Simon Beaufoy Writing Leap Year for Spyglass

This is unquestionably English screenwriter Simon Beaufoy's breakout year, with his script for Slumdog Millionaire earning him a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination (and probably a win). So what is he up to next? Beaufoy has been hired by Spyglass Entertainment to re-write the script for Leap Year, a romantic comedy starring Amy Adams. Not the kind of follow-up you were expecting? Let's not forget that he did also write The Full Monty and Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day previously. Beaufoy is actually taking the earlier draft that was originally written by Harry Elfont and Deb Kaplan and re-writing it to add his touch.
Leap Year is about an uptight women who travels to Dublin to propose to her boyfriend on leap day, February 29th, following an Irish tradition in which women propose to men on that day and the man must say yes. When weather derails her trip, she enlists the help of a surly Irish innkeeper to make an unexpected cross-country trek to pull off the perfect proposal in time. Sounds kind of cute, right? Anand Tucker, of Shopgirl previously, will be directing once the script is ready. As much as I'd love to see him write something just as incredible as Slumdog Millionaire, this definitely isn't going to be it. Maybe next time?

Cool, what people seem to forget is that without a screenwriter there is no film, and Beaufoy is talented.

I don't think people forget that at all Mr. Xerxex…I would go as far to say that a good script is more important than the right director or even casting. Screenwriters are the hidden star of Hollywood.

I'm glad someone corrected me, I'm always just annoyed whenever people seem to give all the credit to the director, I mean I see why the director gets credit. Screenwriters are in fact hidden in the shadows somewhat, but in Beaufoy case this isn't the case. let's hope he can continue with his future projects.
