Early Scream 4 Writer and Story Details Creep Out
Confirmation of another installment to the Scream franchise (aka Scream 4) first came our way last summer. My dislike for the Dimension Films' project has grown today, considering a few possibilities that escaped onto the web, thanks to Bloody-Disgusting. The biggest point of mental upset is that the third sequel will attempt to reboot the franchise using a younger cast. My brain churns and groans at the thought of a glossy teen take with the likes of Chace Crawford. He immediately comes to mind, maybe because he stepped into scares last year with The Haunting of Molly Hartley. Can this really be any good?

Kicking Off 2009 with Writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci - Part One: Star Trek
Now that we're well into 2009, it's time to start looking ahead at some of the big movies coming up this year. Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, whether you're familiar with them or not, are directly responsible for two of this year's most highly anticipated summer features. Alex and Bob (as he's better known) are the screenwriters (and producers) behind J.J. Abrams' Star Trek as well as the writers of Michael Bay's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. So to kick off 2009, I talked exclusively with the two of them about everything from how they got into screenwriting, to their work on Trek and Transformers, to their plans in the future. In this first part, we focus almost entirely on Star Trek.

Pixar Producers Speak Lovingly About Pete Docter's Up
I don't think it's necessary to remind you that Pixar's next film, Up, is going to be as amazing as any of their 9 previous films, but being a die-hard Pixar fanatic, I always love hearing Pixar's filmmakers, and even producers, talk about their work there at Pixar. Collider recently caught up with Jim Morris and Lindsey Collins, the two producers behind Wall-E. They talked a lot about Wall-E and forthcoming Blu-Rays and so on, but the most fascinating things they said came when they were asked about Up and their own reactions to Pete Docter's latest production. Let me just say, if you're not excited for Up yet, you should be!

Vote for Us in the TotalFilm.com Movie Blog Awards!
The magazine gurus over at TotalFilm.com have graciously nominated FirstShowing.net in their first annual Movie Blog Awards, "celebrating the best film bloggers over the past year." Aw, thanks for the truly unnecessary, but greatly appreciated recognition, Total Film! Even more awesome is that we're in the Majors category, meaning we're supposedly one of the top movie blogs out there! Also in the running are all of my other favorite movie blogs (that aren't this one): SlashFilm run by Peter Sciretta, The Movie Blog run by John Campea, Screen Rant run by Vic Holtreman, and Twitch run by Todd Brown. We'd love any support you could give FS.net in the polls. Well, what are you waiting for - get over there and vote now!

Rumor: Linda Hamilton Returning for More Terminator?
It seems as if the only news worth reporting this week are rumors. Yesterday we had the crazy Two-Face rumor originating from Aaron Eckhart at the Golden Globes. Today we have another rumor regarding Terminator Salvation and McG's upcoming trilogy. While we're all excited to see whether McG has successfully rebooted the Terminator franchise (or not), I think it's best we wait until May to see the movie before we start making guesses about who is or who isn't in it. We're familiar with the on-going Arnold Schwarzenegger rumors, so how about throwing Linda Hamilton into the rumor mill, too?

Broken Lizard's Jay Chandrasekhar Helming Opposites Attract
It's not exactly a brand new concept - two people "switch bodies" and feel what it's like to live the other person's life. But have you ever seen a hard R version of that? Opposites Attract is one of those body switching comedies involving a young couple who must "walk a mile in each other's shoes" in order to make their relationship work. Broken Lizard's Jay Chandrasekhar, who has directed almost all of Broken Lizard's films including Super Troopers and Beerfest, will direct Opposites Attract, although it's not a Broken Lizard production. The film is being developed by Bold Films, an independent production company.

Take That Michael Bay - McG Fires Back at Transformers!
Last Friday, we published a quote from Michael Bay where he had made fun of "certain movies coming out" that were "trying to duplicate Transformer size robots in their ads." Bay's quipped, "Please, come on." Obviously he was taking a shot at McG and his giant Terminators. Well, now it's McG's turn to fire back! The director recently moderated a special presentation in New York City of Terminator Salvation footage. He was asked about Bay's statement and what he thought of the Transformers comparison. We weren't in attendance, but Sara from Comcast was and has published McG's response for us to read.

Must Watch: Trailer for Crazy Drug Comedy Next Day Air
It's that guy from that TV show and that guy from that other movie! Summit Entertainment has debuted the trailer for Next Day Air, a high concept comedy about drug dealers, drugs, and two pot smoking delivery guys. Donald Faison (from "Scrubs") and Mos Def (from Be Kind Rewind) star as two delivery guys who accidentally drop off a shipment of drugs to the wrong address. I hate to make this comparison, but this looks like a much more comedic version of something like Snatch. And to be honest, it looks pretty hilarious and just downright fun. I'm especially glad to see Faison on the big screen leading a comedy like this.

Is Steven Spielberg's Lincoln Project Still Next After Tintin?
Everyone knows that in Hollywood, nothing is officially "in production" until the cameras start rolling. So despite the report in May that Steven Spielberg would move on to shoot his Lincoln movie after finishing Tintin, we're still skeptical about whether or not that might actually happen. The only updates Spielberg gave to press yesterday, after receiving the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes, were that the project is still "coming together really quickly." I guess that means it's still on track. Although its star, Liam Neeson, told ComingSoon today that he hasn't seen or a script and doesn't know the plans yet.

Unexciting New Trailer for John Madden's Killshot
The Weinstein Company debuted another new trailer for Killshot just last night, but unfortunately it's not going to make much of a difference. Killshot is another one of those movies that has been delayed for years. It was originally supposed to be in theaters in 2006, but then The Weinstein Company started delaying and the next we know, it was 2008 and they still hadn't released it. It's now slated to hit a few theaters on January 23rd before being pushed to DVD within a few months. And unfortunately this trailer doesn't make it look that great, despite the appearances of Mickey Rourke, Thomas Jane and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Olivia Wilde Talks Even More About Tron 2.0
Why has Olivia Wilde become the new voice of Tron 2.0? Because she's so damn beautiful, that's why! Unlike last time, we actually have a video of her on the Golden Globes red carpet answering questions about the new Tron. While she doesn't say anything new that she didn't already say before, it's a chance to watch one of the most beautiful actresses around talk about a movie that I am probably more excited for than any other movie coming up in the next 5 years. On a relaxing day like today, there's not much else you could really ask for, right? So without further ado, check out the new Olivia Wilde video below.

Yet Another Intriguing Behind-the-Scenes Avatar Photo
Now that we're into 2009, we're finally starting to see photos from Avatar. Maybe it was James Cameron's plan all along to start marketing the movie for an entire year? This new photo comes from an article in the New York Times about Hollywood's use of 3-D (my own response to that is forthcoming). The photo shows Cameron on the set of Avatar looking at some futuristic (and potentially alien) machinery with green screens surrounding him. To me, it looks like an advanced tanning bed, but obviously it's not. It's the third official Avatar photo in two weeks, which means we might see a real photo sometime soon.
