Alex Proyas Moving Forward with Dracula Year Zero and The Tripods
While director Alex Proyas is still fully entrenched in post-production on his upcoming film Knowing, he spoke briefly with ShockTillYouDrop about two more projects he has in development: Dracula Year Zero and The Tripods. As we reported last year, Dracula Year Zero is an origin story for the legendary vampire, while The Tripods is a post-apocalyptic story where humanity has been conquered and enslaved by aliens who travel in giant three-legged machines based on the series of novels by John Christopher. Proyas had the following to say about the two projects, either of which could end up being next for him.

Disney's Race to Witch Mountain Super Bowl TV Spot
Disney has debuted their Super Bowl TV spot for Race to Witch Mountain in advance of the big show on Sunday. Thankfully this means we can get the crap out of the way first this weekend. No matter how many Star Wars jokes they throw into this, I still think this looks just plain bad. I'm not a fan of the original Escape to Witch Mountain nor am I looking forward to this in the least, so I'm not going to speak highly of it at all. Just because Dwayne Johnson or Carla Gugino are in this doesn't mean it will be good. And as you'll see in this TV spot, it's going to be an easy sell for mass audiences, but I plan on skipping it.

Beautiful Black and White Watchmen Character Portraits
To fuel the hype for Watchmen even more, Empire has debuted a beautiful set of black and white character portraits. Being that there is no other movie on my mind that I am more excited for right now, I can't help but share these. The photos were shot by world renowned photographer Clay Enos and are part of an impressive coffee table book called Watchmen: Portraits (pre-order it on Amazon) that features candid black and white shots like this of everyone from the cast to the crew and so on. Even if you've seen everything from Watchmen and are starting to regulate your intake, these are still worth checking out.

Rumor: Robert Rodriguez Producing a Predator Reboot?!
Holy shit! This is one of those news stories that I'm just not sure whether to believe. But I guess Fox did make two complete Alien vs Predator movies, and 10 years ago no one would've believed that would ever happen. Bloody Disgusting is reporting that Robert Rodriguez and his Troublemaker Studios are producing a new Predator reboot for Fox. I hate using the term "reboot," but it's literally the most common word you'll hear in Hollywood. And sometimes it can mean good things. Apparently this is the pitch for the reboot: "In the reboot a team of commandoes face down a mysterious race of vicious monsters."

Slumdog's Simon Beaufoy Writing Leap Year for Spyglass
This is unquestionably English screenwriter Simon Beaufoy's breakout year, with his script for Slumdog Millionaire earning him a Golden Globe and an Oscar nomination (and probably a win). So what is he up to next? Beaufoy has been hired by Spyglass Entertainment to re-write the script for Leap Year, a romantic comedy starring Amy Adams. Not the kind of follow-up you were expecting? Let's not forget that he did also write The Full Monty and Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day previously. Beaufoy is actually taking the earlier draft that was originally written by Harry Elfont and Deb Kaplan and re-writing it to add his touch.

First Look: Soundwave from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen
We know this isn't an actual photo of the real Soundwave from Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, but it is our first look at the official toy, via Empire. Soundwave is a fan favorite and I certainly know I'm not the only one excited to see him making his debut in this sequel. Die-hard fans already know that Soundwave transforms into a cassette player, with matching cassette tape transformers like Ravage and Laserbeak stored in his chest. Unfortunately since Frenzy turned into a small CD player in the first film, they've made Soundwave into a jet for now, as you'll see below, and it's unlikely we'll see Ravage or Laserbeak either.

Apparently Ghost Rider 2 is Officially Moving Forward
I'm reluctant to report this, but I guess I have to. Yep, they're actually making Ghost Rider 2. Do you remember the original? Yea, that damn movie they put out in 2007 that almost everyone hated (right?). Like it or not, we all knew that a sequel was inevitable, as Ghost Rider did make an impressive $116 million at the box office. It has just taken a while for the whole thing to actually get moving. However, Bloody Disgusting is reporting tonight that Columbia Pictures is officially looking for writers and that Nicolas Cage is indeed already attached and signed on to return. Is there really any hope for this sequel at all?

Battlestar's Ronald D. Moore Scripting The Thing Prequel
In 1982, John Carpenter released The Thing, the second film to be spawned from John W. Campbell Jr.'s short story "Who Goes There." Universal has officially announced today that Ronald D. Moore, the mastermind behind such groundbreaking shows as "Carnivale" and "Battlestar Galactica," will pen the script for the prequel which focuses on a Norwegian camp overrun by shape-shifting aliens. Geek-gasm. The film has commercial director Matthijs Van Heijningen attached to direct, as previously reported (if you head over to AICN, you can check out some of his ad work). All I really have to say about this is: YES!

Fox Takes Control of Walden's Chronicles of Narnia
So, remember about a month ago when it was made official that Disney was dumping their Chronicles of Narnia franchise when the "budgetary and logistical" aspects of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader became more trouble than they were worth? Well, now a month later, everyone's favorite studio has come to the rescue - Fox is set to co-finance Narnia's third installment with Walden. And a hush descended over the land as a single tear dropped from Aslan's mighty eye. Anyone remember Eragon? Well, the entity behind Eragon, know as Fox 2000, will be behind the development of the next Narnia.

Awesome Concept Art for Max Brooks' World War Z Movie
Even with Quantum of Solace director Marc Forster attached to direct, I don't really know how anyone could not be excited for World War Z, the epic worldwide zombie invasion movie currently in development. In addition to Forster, "Babylon 5" creator J. Michael Straczynski penned the screenplay, which we outlined in a previous article. To top all of that off, io9 has uncovered some early concept art for the film from artist Daniel LuVisi. The full painting is titled "The Battle Of Yonkers" and is wonderfully detailed, as you can see below. If the film looks anything like this, then we're in for one hell of a treat.

Gladiator Screenwriter William Nicholson to Write 1066
The year 1066 is regarded as one of the most tumultuous years in English history, where control for England's throne was fought over by King Harold and William the Conqueror, culminating in the famous Battle of Hastings. William's victory and the subsequent Norman takeover stands to this day as the last hostile invasion of Great Britain. And to adapt this historical showdown and epic confrontation to the screen is none other than William Nicholson, most renowned for his work co-writing the Gladiator screenplay back in 2000. Will he apply the same formula yet again to 1066 that worked so well for Gladiator?

One Final Watchmen Poster Hits the Web!
No more taglines. It's just plain and simple: Watchmen. It's time to start counting down the days - only 37 more to go until this finally hits theaters, just as Warner Brothers promised us all along. The final poster for Watchmen has just debuted over on Yahoo and can be seen below in all of its glory. I've really enjoyed all of the Watchmen posters so far, they've all been fantastic, and this one just caps them all off. It's not anything new, and that's a bit of a let down because I was hoping to see something more, but it'll still do. Enjoy!
