John Carpenter Finally Returning to Direct The Ward
February 2, 2009
by Alex Billington
The man behind such cult classics as Assault on Precinct 13, Halloween, The Thing, Escape From New York, and Big Trouble in Little China, known best as John Carpenter (seen above), will finally return to directing after 8 years with a film called The Ward. The psychological thriller will star Amber Heard as a young woman in a mental institution who is terrorized by a ghost. Obviously there's probably going to be a lot more to the story than just that, but that's all that was revealed at this time. Shooting is scheduled to begin in May, with Echo Lake Entertainment and Saw series' Peter Block producing and financing.
"The Ward is the kind of script that I've been looking for: a complex, visceral story, full of suspense and scares," Carpenter told Hollywood Reporter. The script was written by Michael and Shawn Rasmussen, of only a film titled Long Distance previously. Carpenter's last feature film was Ghosts of Mars in 2001, which was panned by critics and fans alike. We've heard talk previously that Carpenter would return with a "brutal gangster film" titled The Prince, but apparently it'll be The Ward instead. No matter what Carpenter directs next, I'm very excited to see him return, and it sounds like The Ward could end up being creepy as hell.

Carpenter has been one of the best in Sci Fi/Horror movies.I admire his work, i loved Ghosts Of Mars and i am truly excited about "The Ward" in addition that Amber is in the starting role, she is a good actress at the beginning of her career hope this gives her some credits in the future.
I don't want to rush as usual, will wait till we have a teaser poster/trailer.

Dang It! I wish he'd direct Escape From Earth, with Kurt Russell returning as Snake Plissken. I know, it most likely will not happen, but, who knows?

Really? Ghosts of Mars? I mean, I'm a big Carpenter fan, but that was probably his weakest film to date. That and Escape from L.A. had, hands down, the absolute worst CGI in film history.

HAHAHA!! Number 6, u got that right on! Escape for L.A. had some terrible SFX - the surfing scene with P. Fonda - atrocious!
But I for am looking forward to another Carpenter flick! Whoooo-hooo Amber Heard (she looks good in "The Informers" as well).
