Two New Projects In the Works for Director Marcus Nispel

German director Marcus Nispel has been making quite a name for himself, with his latest film, Friday the 13th, already receiving quite a bit of early praise. Although he might have screwed up with Pathfinder, he's back on the right track and will certainly redeem himself next weekend. As always, we've got to ask what's next, and for Nispel, there's a couple of very interesting projects on the horizon that are very worth mentioning. Nispel spoke with ShockTillYouDrop just the other day and told them about two new movies he's got in the works, one of them about cloning, the other about what's underneath Manhattan.
"There's a movie that I'm interested in. A great movie about cloning, it's called Immaculate Conception," Nispel told them. "A girl gets pregnant, doesn't know why. You think it goes like Rosemary's Baby but it's not a horror movie, though. You find out that she's part of an experiment. A splinter group of the church found a rusty old nail in the hills of Golgotha and they've harvested the DNA they believe is from Jesus Christ. It's like Marathon Man or Coma." So it's not like Rosemary's Baby, but is like Coma? That still sounds kind of a like a horror/thriller to me! Either way, I'm really digging that concept quite a bit.
The second project that Nispel is interested in is called Pod. "It's dealing with a huge fascination of mine - the seven sub-levels under Manhattan. When they dig deep they find something they shouldn't have." Juicy plot teasers like that always get my attention. This one especially because it's not just underground anywhere, it's underground in Manhattan! The last monster movie we saw in New York kicked some serious ass - yes, I'm talking about Cloverfield. Who knows if it's a monster or aliens in Pod, but either way, I'm very interested in seeing it get made as well. The sooner the better before someone else steals the idea.
Nispel is a great genre director and works well with darker projects, which both of these seem to be. I'd like to see Nispel direct both and I hope Friday the 13th does well enough to push one of them into production.

To tell the truth, I actually enjoyed Pathfinder. This may be because I've only seen the unrated version (I own it), not the version that went to theaters. So, I'm definitely willing to see whatever this guy makes next.

Second concept sounds way more interesting, even if it is rather cliche. Might prove intriguing anyway. Or maybe I just want to watch The Descent again.
