William Monahan Helming Art of the Heist Adaptation

This kind of news is always a bit remarkable to report. Oscar winning screenwriter William Monahan is making his directorial debut on a feature film called London Boulevard that will star Colin Farrell and Keira Knightley. But before that even starts shooting, he's already lined up his next directing gig, which is a bit odd because he hasn't yet proven himself as a director in addition to being a talented screenwriter. Monahan is set to direct an adaptation of "The Art of the Heist: Confessions of a Master Thief, Rock-and-Roller and Prodigal Son," the forthcoming memoirs of career criminal Myles Connor which hits bookshelves in April.
Myles Connor became an art connoisseur and a rock musician whose band, Myles and the Wild Ones, backed Roy Orbison. He was also an accomplished art and antiques thief who was involved in a series of museum robberies that made headlines in Boston in the 70s and 80s. This sounds like it could be an interesting project, especially because I usually enjoy every heist film I come across. Although I'm saying skeptical things about Monahan as a director, he could turn out great and we just don't know it yet. But he's still got to prove that first before I start getting excited for every new project he gets attached to.
