Ed Solomon Rewriting The Hardy Men Comedy Spoof
February 13, 2009
by Alex Billington
This project has been in development for a very long time - The Hardy Men, a comedic riff on the classic young-adult mystery novels about two brothers who solve crimes. This spoof deals with the Hardy Boys once they've grown up. Shawn Levy, of the Night at the Museum movies, is still attached to direct, while Ben Stiller and Tom Cruise still remain attached to star. Most recently, Mr. & Mrs. Smith writer Simon Kinberg put together a draft, but apparently Fox threw it out. Now they've hired screenwriter Ed Solomon, of Super Mario Bros., Men in Black, and Charlie's Angels, to work on a new version for the studio.
I never really liked this concept to begin with. Maybe it's my continued disliked for Shawn Levy and Ben Stiller and my extreme hatred for their Night at the Museum movies. I just can't stand them, so whenever I see the two working together, I get sick thinking about the kind of sloppy, unfunny comedy that they'll whip up, just like the Farrelly Brothers. Plus, as much as we'd all love to see Tom Cruise do something comedic again after Tropic Thunder, I just don't think it's going to happen. I'm certain they're going to find someone else if Fox ends up liking Solomon's version. Seriously, this is Fox, nothing good can come of this!

It was a weird but fun movie, but I still agree with #1
Why is it that its so hard to get into that industry, but the people that produce unsuccessful shit still get paid? W - T - F ?!

Cruise is good for a comedy gimmick like say in Tropical Thunder, but in general, this movie reeks of ABSOLUTE SHIT.
(But yes, props on the provided pic)

You forget Bill & Ted. The evil character from Bogus Journey, Delomonos, is an anagram of "Ed Solomon."

I figured a shitty ass movie like this would get a cast the likes of Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn.

You can better believe that if Ben Stiller & Owen Wilson
were the Hardy Men, this movie WOULD BE HILARIOUS!!
These two know how to improv, and that can make for hilarious
comedy.
But Cruise???? Puhleeze!!! The man couldn't make anybody laugh….even
if he tried!!!!
WTF was so funny about the Tropic Thunder shit? Who the heck
can't curse up a storm & act like a moron middle aged man with
the help of prosthetics & wigs?
All I can say is, I hope everybody on set will get used
to his Scientology goons….because they go with him
EVERYWHERE!!!
