Second X-Men Origins: Wolverine TV Spot: Brothers
February 16, 2009
by Alex Billington
As promised, Fox aired the second of three TV spots tonight for X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The final TV spot will air tomorrow night and combined with the first one, they will form a short narrative revealing the origins of Wolverine. This is looking better and better the more we see but I'm beginning to wonder if this is just some editing wizardry or if Wolverine is actually going to be as awesome as this looks? Because it looks damn good! Stay tuned for the next TV spot tomorrow night during "American Idol" at 8PM - or if you hate that show as much as me we'll have it online without any of the fuss without minutes of its debut.
Watch the second TV spot for X-Men Origins: Wolverine titled "Brothers":
Wolverine lives a mutant life, seeks revenge against Victor Creed (who will later become Sabretooth) for the death of his girlfriend, and ultimately ends up going through the mutant Weapon X program.
X-Men Origins: Wolverine is directed by South African filmmaker Gavin Hood, of the Oscar winner Tsotsi and Rendition previously. The script was written by veteran screenwriter David Benioff, of 25th Hour, Troy, and The Kite Runner previosuly. The character of Wolverine was first created by Len Wein and John Romita Sr. back in 1974. Fox will debut X-Men Origins: Wolverine in theaters everywhere on May 1st.

This trailer really excites me! I was seriously worried about this movie being nothing more than a popcorn muncher but this changes things. It shows there really might be some story here, not just Wolverine owning a helicopter.

I think the tv spots r great and i've read through the origin comics of wolverine and is kinda worried for people who don't know much or any of his origin story that the spots might be showing way too much.

All these spots and trailers seem so jumbled. I'd like to see one that sort of just tells us what the story is going to be about, rather than just quick images from all these different points of his life. Yes, I understand that most people are familiar with the character, but with multiple decades of great stories to tell, I'd like to see exactly which ones they are really focusing on. Right now, to me, it seems like it has an identify crisis — like they don't know which angle will sell the most tickets so they include all of them.

pretty much agree with nugeman and js on this one. if you didn't read the origin comics, fox is pretty much leaving you with nothing to expect in terms of plot reveals/points come may 1st. they already revealed one of those in the last spot which continued into this one (sabretooth/wolverine's relationship)…

yuup, for those not familiar with Wolverine it seems like there won't be any big reveals and thus no real reason to watch the movie. It's like watching The Usual Suspects already knowing all the twists.
Obviously for us fans it doesn't really matter, but it would suck to see the box office returns ruined by showing too much on the trailers.

Just an FYI…Wolverine is that old. He will be 30-40 ish for a long while. In the comics, i don't remember him at Gettysburg, but he was in WW1 and was in WW2. He actually met Captain America back in the 40's. One thing though, as I've said in the previous TV spot thread, in the comics he meets Sabertooth waaaaay later in the 60's and 70's during the whole coldwar era. He did covert ops with Sabertooth and another mutant called Maverick.
They just never have had that much of a shared past. But as a diehard X-men fan/reader/collector/expert, i like the idea, because both have the same powers. Only Wolverine has bone claws from birth. Sabertooth simply enjoys the joy of killing because he can…Logan fights that primal nature and only gives in as a self-defense mechanism. It would be possible for them to have met before the Canadian super soldier program "Weapon X". And the fact that the movie shows them as brothers is possible, but in comics it hasn't been made official in any other way. Wolverine is Canadian, Sabertooth is from the deep south. But i think fans of the comics and fans of the movie franchise of X-men film will accept this twist of faith.
For those who love these two comic book characters, i suggest reading Wolverine: Origins TPB and Wolverine: Evolution TPB.
This movie will do fine and make Fox producers rich…euh richer! And for the fans…it will redeem the X-men movie franchise for its short comings *cough: X3 sucked ass*

i think the biggest flaw will be if they dont show sabertooth fighting wolverine on his bdays. that would be messed imo

Whatever. It did not need some "special" three part trailer. I haven't seen anything new really except in the first one which…yeah, he grew claws. We know. *yawn*

Each one of the trailers has been getting me more excited to see this - however I hope this isn't falling into that theory that if they're showing you so much footage, its b/c the movie isn't going to do so well.
I donno, I hope I'm wrong about that, but I'm a big Wolverine fan so I expect some substance and badass action!

Kind of interesting that the movies now say Sabertooth and Wolverine are brothers instead of the father/son dynamic the comics teased at for so long.

Very cool. I just worry about the time length. Hopefully Fox will let this one breathe like what they are doing with AVATAR. I was nervous about Gavin Hood undertaking this after how underwhelming RENDITION was, but this looks pretty awesome. Hopefully the last one will make all of this connect more than it looks now.

i like wolverine as a charactor in a comic book,i liked wolverine in x-men 2,but i'm not sure about this film it's got a very good supporting cast (deadpool =fucking awesome, sabertooth =very cool & emma frost the white queen = fucking sexy charactor)but at the moment i'm more excited about the three i've just mentioned than the main star, also concerned about the running time that's a whole lot of wolverine origin to cram into an hour & half, two & half hours more like any thing less could ruin it.

i think they added too many mutants just like x3, we saw cyclops and storm and we have no idea wat they have to do with the story line and it doesnt really make any sense. the history line for the xmen doesnt make any sense wat so ever, i thought the 1st time Wolverine meet the cyclops and storm was in the first one and the same thing with Sabertooth, but any ways since today is going to be the last tv spot, does any1 have any prediciton of what the last one might be?? What r ur thoughts???

i am torn. sometimes it looks good sometimes it looks bad. this second one looked amazing. though i do love how jimmy has amazing hair in the civil war. it's flowing like a herbal essence commercial. lol

I am actually lost for some reason. Who the hell is Jimmy?
Silence on Feb 17, 2009

Jimmy is wolverine
I hope they show wolverine running around in WW2 with bayonnets tied to his hands
Dan on Feb 17, 2009

I Hope they have a show down between deadpool and wolverine. That would just be bad ass.
Eric on Feb 17, 2009
27
yah, his real name is James Howlett, and I guess sabertooth just calls him jimmy. And when they got shot by the firing squad, that was before wolverine got his steal bones, so if one of those bullets hit him in the head, would that kill him? or can his brain heal 2

Is that wolverine fighting in the American civil war? but hes canadian, soo…thats kinda weird. and in the comics it said wolverine was born in the late 1800s i think, so if that is the civil war they musta made him a hell of alot older in this. i think they're kinda pushing it, hed be like 160 years old today.
