Will Timur Bekmambetov Go Back to Yesterday with The Days Before?
February 17, 2009

Check out this concept: A man tries to save the world from time-traveling aliens out to destroy the planet one yesterday at a time. Is this for real?! Apparently it is! Although we're not so sure about the names attached, I just couldn't help mentioning this for that crazy concept alone. The film is called The Days Before and was written by first-time writer Chad St. John. According to the Production Weekly Twitter, the project has gained three big names: Wanted's Timur Bekmambetov (seen above) is in negotiations to direct and Robert Downey Jr. and Reese Witherspoon are in talks to star. Now this could be awesome!
The Days Before tells the story of a race of aliens who invade Earth by traveling backwards through time and wiping out humanity, one day at a time, yesterday by yesterday. One man attempts to stay "a yesterday ahead of them," and every time he must try to convince the world that "the end is coming," again. How awesome is that?! Producer Gianni Nunnari of Hollywood Gang (The Departed, 300, War of the Gods) is developing this project, though we haven't heard any official confirmation regarding those three names.
I'm probably most excited about Timur Bekmambetov's involvement than anyone. That's not to say that Robert Downey Jr. and Reese Witherspoon aren't fine actors - I would love to see them in this. But if there is anyone who could handle the subject of time travel with finesse, it's Timur. He's the guy behind Wanted as well as the Night Watch / Day Watch series and boasts an awesome visual style combined with sleek storytelling. But let's not forget he's also attached to Wanted 2 and that Moby Dick re-imagining as well. This is one of those projects that I desperately want to see because it has such a freakin' cool concept.

I work at a production Co in LA - My job is to read scripts that come in each day for consideration. We covered The Days Before last year, and it was amazing. I can't think of a better choice for a director. This is sci-fi action, at its best.
And the aliens are really, really badass.
I hope Timur chooses to helm it. If not, it would be a great project for someone who's proficent with science fiction and action.

Hmm, sounds intresting. Timur has amazing visual style which would certaintly compliment this movie, but Witherspoon and Downey Jr. together??? Hmmm. Downey seems to be eveyrwhere nowadays and hopefully he is not taking everything thrown his way. Witherspoon for some reason always annoyed me outside of comedies (exception of WALK THE LINE) so I'm curious to see how this goes.

Timur=The Best Choice. Downey Jr.= will definitely nail it However, Reese Witherspoon??? You must fire the guy who came up with Witherspoon. How about Julia Stiles? I think they'd look great together.

Sounds a bit similar to TimeSplitters:

I did enjoy both Night Watch and Day Watch, and I do hope that if Bekmambetov does get into thriller/vid game-ish territory that he doesn't become another Uwe Boll or Bartkowiak to a lesser extent.
