Interview: Watchmen's Comedian - Jeffrey Dean Morgan
February 19, 2009
by Alex Billington
Of all the people involved in Watchmen, the one actor I really wanted to interview was Jeffrey Dean Morgan, who plays The Comedian. Not only is he a great guy in person (I've met him before), but his character is one of the darkest and most complex in the entire movie. Yesterday afternoon I sat down with him to talk about Watchmen and what it's like being a part of something so incredible. And because we're all very excited about Watchmen, I thought I'd put up my video interview for your viewing pleasure. Be careful, this isn't exactly spoiler free, but it should be a fascinating interview to watch - at least I think so!
For those who haven't read the graphic novel, The Comedian might possibly be the most conflicted character of the story. There is a lot of insight to be gained from this interview after having seen the movie as well, primarily because you'll understand his take on the character so much more. I hope you enjoy!
Watch our interview with Jeffrey Dean Morgan:
Please be patient while loading the video - the file size is huge! Thank you!
The video portion of the interview was shot using my Flip Mino camera. The full transcript will be posted at a future point, I just wanted to get this out there since people have requested to see it. And while I can't yet write about Watchmen, you can hear my thoughts in the video. Let's just say, I wasn't disappointed in the least. As for Jeffrey Dean Morgan, his character kicks ass, and while he is one of the darkest parts of the story, it's extraordinary watching him on screen. Not that anyone needs more reasons to go see Watchmen, but hopefully this chat with Morgan has given you just a small idea of how much work went into it.
Watchmen is directed by Zack Snyder (of Dawn of the Dead and 300) and is written by David Hayter (The Scorpion King, X-Men, X-Men 2) and Alex Tse. The film is an adaptation of Alan Moore's highly acclaimed award winning graphic novel of the same name. Watchmen officially arrives in theaters everywhere on March 6th, 2009. Stay tuned for even more Watchmen coverage, photos, and more here on FS.net!

Great interview.
I like hearing the actors analysis of their characters. Gives them more substance aside from what we read in the graphic novel.
JDM seems like a mellow, humble actor. Can't wait for 3-6-09 !
THE END IS NIGH!

It's great to see someone genuinely passionate about what they're doing.

even though the 3x clips that were posted all seemed very flat and lifeless, and had 2 of them featuring needless slow mo rubbish, and Ozzy mumbling his way through his lines, i'll still be there on March 6th (day booked off work!) to see the movie with high hopes!

I'm really only familiar with JDM from his work on Supernatural. He has a rare quality, he immediately generates empathy.

Alex and #12,
funny how you guys both see the resemblance that JDM and RDJ have.
Just this morning my friend asked if i thought Downey Jr. would do a good job of portraying the Comedian. i answered with a chuckle and then my explanation that Morgan is playing Blake.
Truth be told, i made the same mistake when the very first trailer was released.

he looks like a half-breed between brad garret and robert downey jr, but i agree, i'm glad to see that he, along with the other watchmen, are doing not just for the money, but for the fans too

Yeah, he plays the father on Supernatural. He's got an inferno based introduction in the pilot - pretty bad ass.

once again, keep up the good work Alex and FS.net!

VIDEO INTERVIEWS? AWESOME.
More of these please, way easier to absorb than full text transcripts. I LOVE it. Keep it up FS! On to the interview, loved it, love hearing of the religious adherence to the graphic novel. Can't wait to be in theaters to watch this masterpiece.
