Stephen Gaghan Adapting Dead Spy Running for McG

Whoa, it looks like McG is Warner Brothers's new favorite director! The studio has announced an adaptation of "Dead Spy Running" being written by Stephen Gaghan (Traffic, The Alamo, Syriana) and directed by McG. The original book was written by British author Jon Stock and "aims to reinvent the spy genre" by telling the origin story of a newly trained spy in a tone that mixes the grittiness of The Bourne Identity with the wittiness of John Le Carre's oeuvre. The book, which won't be published until June, begins with the protagonist running the London Marathon, while a fellow racer is strapped with explosives.
Warner Brothers is hoping to develop this as a trilogy, which makes this the second huge trilogy that McG has attached himself to in the last year, the other being Terminator. Interestingly, this is being produced by McG and partner Jeanne Allgood's Wonderland Sound and Vision production company, which means no matter what McG will direct at least the first installment, even if it takes a few years to get made. Let's not forget that he's already finishing the rest of the Terminator trilogy and also directing 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea for Disney. Sounds like it could be pretty cool, so we'll keep on the look out for more!

Sounds pretty awesome. I like the concept, but don't see how it will "reinvent the spy genre."

With all that on his plate, sounds like it might be a while coming.
Gives the writers plenty of time to do their thing at least.. =)
