Zack Snyder Directing Sucker Punch Next for 2011

So what does the visionary director who makes something incredible out of what was unfilmmable go on to do next? How about a movie described as "Alice in Wonderland with machine guns" called Sucker Punch? We've heard about this before - Zack Snyder announced it way back in 2007 during all the 300 hype. It's set in the 1950's and follows a girl who while in a mental institution imagines an alternative reality to hide from the pain, and in that world, begins planning her escape. It's a bit more complicated, obviously, and was co-written by Snyder himself and Steve Shibuya, and will definitely be Snyder's next project.
These updated details come from Collider, who just finished interviewing him today, as I'm set to talk with him in a few minutes. Snyder confirmed that Sucker Punch is definitely his next project (in addition to the animated Guardians of Ga'Hoole) and that he's going to start shooting in the fall for a release in March of 2011 (the exact same schedule he's been on since 300). Sucker Punch will feature an all girl cast and is going to be an R rated action extravaganza of sorts. If you're not yet excited for this, now's the time to change that! We'll let you know when we hear more, but for now, re-read what was announced last year.

snyder's wife is hot. i can only imagine dirty thoughts of her sexiness in her younger years. and this sounds alright. we'll have to wait and see. is this a totally original concept of his?

Sucker Punch sounds a bit like a Korean film called "I'm a Cyborg but it's OK".

Please stop calling Snyder a "visionary". Remaking a zombie movie and copying and pasting a comic book panel for panel on screen is not visionary. Even if he does pull off Watchmen panel for panel it still will not make him imaginative or visionary.
As for the actual film, it sounds interesting, I wonder how much slow-motion is going to be overused.

Word Alex he recreated 2 fucking awesome novels and put his own spin of action and awesome narrative into them, I do want to know if this is a totally original idea because if it is….Snyder will go way up in my book considering hes never really made his OWN film.

I think he deserves the visionary title for 300 which you so conveniently left out…That film revolutionized how we look at live action digital effects, and he didn't copy those scenes from anything seeing as neither comic books nor George Romero existed back than.
I second that he should be called a visionary…I guess Entertainment Weekly thought so too or they wouldn't have put him on their Greatest 25 Active Directors list.

I don't think he's a visionary either. If your just copying-pasting panels on to a screen there isn't much creativity. But hey, I think he's got potential if he get off his slow-mo fetish.

hes a visionary in the seance that no one in the history of film has ever directed like him before…
and I'll totally watch this flick.
P.S. don't ever watch 300 when your stoned it sounds like it would be sweet but the constant slow motion makes it unbearable

There are onley two visionary directors!
Kubrick and Ridley Scott!

@3
He's been on it for 4 years?
That's a good sign.. give him time to let the dough rise, working out all the bugs.
IMO that's part of why a lot of sequels bomb. The first movie is given years of TLC as a personal project and then the studios push the second too fast.

Visionary only visually, when it comes to telling a story he's an uncreative hack.
