Odd Comedy Trio Headed to the Hot Tub Time Machine
February 23, 2009
by Alex Billington
One of the most buzzed about comedic screenplays floating around last year was called Hot Tub Time Machine, about a group of idiots who literally travel back in time in their hot tub. It has that kind of Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure feel to it, which is why it was one of those projects that everyone wanted to see. According to Production Weekly's Twitter, Hot Tub Time Machine is finally moving into production in April and has already lined up a cast - John Cusack, Rob Corddry, and Craig Robinson. The project is being produced by MGM and directed by Steve Pink, who made his feature debut with Accepted.
We don't really know what happens after the guys go back in time, or where the story goes next, but if you need any convincing, I'll point you to this article on Cinematical, where screenwriter Josh Heald declares that "my goal with the screenplay was awesomeness, through and through." I don't think "awesomeness" instantly makes for a great screenplay, even for comedies, but maybe this is an exception. I also would've preferred a more comedic actor like Steve Carell instead of John Cusack, but I'll manage. And I really hope this turns out a lot better than Sex Drive, although if that's the actual cast, I don't think we need to worry.

Good point Roy, I forgot about Craig Robinson being in a lot of things no one has ever seen like Pineapple Express, Knocked Up, East Bound and Down, The Office, etc.
