Michel Gondry Directing Seth Rogen's Green Hornet!

When it was announced that Stephen Chow would no longer be directing The Green Hornet project that Seth Rogen had been developing, I was worried that we wouldn't see a better director eventually get the gig. But I was wrong. Michel Gondry, known as the wacky mind behind Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Science of Sleep, and Be Kind Rewind, has signed on to direct. While this is definitely not an expected choice, I'm certainly loving it. I was already excited for Green Hornet beforehand, and I'm a big Gondry fan separately, so combining those two was like seeing your two favorite actors finally work together.
This is the most mainstream project Gondry has ever taken on. Although Be Kind Rewind was made by New Line Cinema, it was still considered an independent and low-budget creation, and even Dave Chappelle's Block Party falls into the indie category as well. But as we all know, Sony has set this up as a big budget tentpole superhero film for release in the summer of 2010. I can imagine this means we won't be seeing Gondry's creative cardboard-style visual effects anymore. Although I'm very curious what this does mean for the project? What exactly is Gondry's vision for this that made both Sony and Seth Rogen so excited?

Seems like a odd choice. Intrigued nonetheless. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind was a good underrated movie.

What the… ???
I think even the Wachowskis directing Superman was more of a logical turn of events than this. This is like saying Michael Bay will direct the next Harry Potter or something.
Idk what to think of this, considering I like Gondry's stuff, but dunno what he would do with a superhero comedy type movie.

There's a little interview of Rogen who talks about the involvement of Gondry and the way he sees the film… Apparently Rogen and Gondry talked closely about the project even when other directors were approached and Gondry wanted to do this film so bad that he shot an action scene on his own, with stuntmen he hired (it seems that it's this video that clearly decided the studio to pick him) : http://www.mtv.com/movies/news/articles/1605768/20090224/story.jhtml
Apparently, Gondry thought wanted to do a Green Hornet film something like 10 years ago and still thought about it since so he knows what he wants and what he's doing.

i cant believe this >< i hope this movie turns out well. i just dont see my self watching a "typical" type of movie with Gondry being the director.

That sounds encouraging. Always helps when someone has taken a long time interest in a project long before hand.
The best ideas come from being incubated over time.
Was nervous upon first reading this. Seems a bit of a departure from his previous films.
