Warner Brothers Adapting DC Comics' Suicide Squad Series

Warner Brothers has announced that they are adapting the DC Comics series Suicide Squad, about a group of incarcerated supervillains who are recruited by the government to accomplish tasks deemed too dangerous for superheroes. Rookie producers Dan Lin and Stephen Gilchrist will develop and have set Hollywood's newest favorite fanboy screenwriter Justin Marks to adapt. I'm not personally familiar with the Suicide Squad comics, but it sounds like a concept that has a lot of cool potential. The series first debuted in 1959 and was relaunched in 1987, also known then as "Task Force X", and finished its run in 2002.
The first Suicide Squad consisted of Rick Flag, his girlfriend Karin Grace, Dr. Hugh Evans, and Jess Bright, although later Squads also featured Ace High, Beast, Blowhard, Gyp, Jeb Stuart, Lawless, Nickels, Rick Flag, Sr., and Shiv. The reason why the story is so interesting is because these villains, who used to operate on their own, must rid themselves of their interpersonal conflicts and work together as a team. We've heard before that Hollywood has wanted to explore stories about villains rather than heroes, but nothing has really come to fruition yet. As cool as this sounds, I'm wondering if it will turn out any good in the end.

I'm reserving jugment until we hear who will be writing, directing, & acting.
But this is Warner.. so they have the cash to do it right.
As long as the right people are not working on something else at the time.

Didn't see the new Street Fighter so I can't judge the writing, but I know the directing and design team for that movie looks like crap. But this movie sounds like it could be awesome, so I'm excited to see a movie about bad guys.

I loved this comic book series when it first came out, but there is NO WAY this could be done right for film. The villains in Suicide Squad ACTUALLY act like real villains. As in issue #2, a character (The Bronze Tiger) is told to stop another individual but not kill him, so he breaks the guy's back to stop him. Once character (Deadshot) is obsessed with killing himself, but is to afraid to actually do it, so he puts himself in situations where he could be killed by opponents, but keeps killing them because he is a better assassin. It would work GREAT as a TV series (The Unit plus 24 with no heroes and only villains), but as a movie… just not sure about this one.
