Jonah Hill Sells His Spec Script Adventurer's Handbook

Jason Schwartzman and Jonah Hill

We haven't heard much from Jonah Hill recently, and that may be because he's been shooting any number of upcoming projects, including Judd Apatow's Funny People. However, today we finally have some rather interesting Hollywood sales news to report, coming from Entertainment Weekly, about a high profile spec script that Jonah Hill wrote with his writing partner Max Winkler. It's called Adventurer's Handbook, described as an R rated "edgy, broad comedy" that is about "four 20-something guys who, inspired by a book of the same name, set out overseas in search of a mysterious location described in the book."

New X-Men Origins: Wolverine Photos and Footage Debut

New X-Men Origins: Wolverine Photos and Footage Debut

In a very odd decision, 20th Century Fox has decided to go against the norm and release new footage from the upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine in three separate instances on TV. Beginning this Sunday, February 15th, viewers will see three special 60-second TV spots that will air over the course of three nights. Together, with one spot leading into the next, they will form a narrative revealing the origins of Wolverine. In essence, instead of showing us a new trailer, we get this 3-minute glimpse at X-Men Origins: Wolverine as seen on Fox's cable TV network. In anticipation, four new photos have been revealed as well.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Moved Up 2 Days Early

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Back in 2007, I remember Michael Bay asking fans online whether he should move up the release of the first Transformers. The response was overwhelming and he seemingly was able to then push up the release by 1 extra day. Well, this time he doesn't need to ask fans, because Paramount has already decided to push the release date up by 2 extra days for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen so that it will now hit theaters on Wednesday, June 24th, instead of the 26th. That's a few extra days that we'll be able to bask in the glory of all things Optimus Prime and Michael Bay. It's not a big change, but it's enough to keep me excited!

Interview: The International Director Tom Tykwer

Tom Tykwer

Tom Tykwer is one of those directors where whenever I see or hear his name, I'm immediately interested. Before The International, he directed Run Lola Run, The Princess and the Warrior, Heaven, and my personal favorite, Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. He hails from Germany and is a very visual director with a gritty style that I love seeing on the big screen. So when I was given the chance to talk with him a few weeks ago about The International, I jumped at the opportunity. Here is the result and my lengthy interview with Tom Tykwer that primarily focus on The International and what went into his latest film.

Two New Posters Remind Us We're Not Watching Franklyn

Franklyn Posters

A late night poster delivery for the neo-noir sci-fi thriller Franklyn. Thanks to BadTaste.it, we've got a first look at a few new Italian posters for the film, which hits theaters in Italy in April, and in the UK in February. As for when it will ever arrive here in America, who knows? It doesn't even have a US distributor yet, which at this point with this much early buzz, is a bit ridiculous, but I'm sure we'll know more soon. Anyway, these two posters are still pretty damn cool. For those curious, the text in Italian reads: "Tonight I'm going to kill a man." I'm amazed you can even write that on a poster, but alas, the MPAA doesn't exist in Europe.

Alex Winter is Remaking Stephen Dorff's The Gate?!

The Gate Poster

What the hell is this? Pun definitely intended. According to the Twitter for the very unreliable Production Weekly (via SlashFilm), the 1987 creature feature The Gate is being remade. Great, another remake we can forget about, right? Well, according to PW, Alex Winter is directing this in 3D - the very same Alex Winter that starred as Bill S. Preston, Esq. in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. Now you might start to understand why I'm wondering what this is? Believe it or not, Winters has actually directed a few things before this, including a thriller called Fever from 1999 and a few of the Ben 10 movies on the Cartoon Network.

Check This Out: Awesome Watchmen 8-Bit Arcade Game

Check This Out: Awesome Watchmen 8-Bit Arcade Game

Like it or not, I am completely obsessed with all things Watchmen at the moment. I get to see it in about six days and there's nothing else I'm more excited for right now. I suggest everyone get into the same mood soon, too, it's fun, and I'm certain the payoff will be completely worth it in the end. That said, thanks to Collider, I stumbled across an awesome bit of viral marketing for Watchmen that is just too cool not to share. Over on the official UK website, there's a playable 8-bit arcade video game based on the movie that just kicks some serious ass. Really, it's so frickin' fun! Everyone needs to play this thing right now!

Darren Bousman's Next is a Submarine Heist Movie

Darren Bousman

Darren Bousman, the talented director behind Saw II, III, and IV as well as the cult classic Repo! The Genetic Opera, has decided to leave the horror genre behind for his next project. Over the last year, Bousman has mention in interviews that his next movie would be in the action genre and definitely not horror, but he's never revealed what it would be. Just as Bousman finishes the last leg of his Repo! road tour, details have finally been revealed regarding the project, titled Akula, and only described as a heist film set on a submarine. "The tone is dark, but very different from the films I've directed recently."

John Malkovich Wrangled for DC's Jonah Hex Movie

Jonah Hex - John Malkovich

Jimmy Hayward has found a villain for his adaptation of the DC Comics series Jonah Hex - John Malkovich will star alongside of Josh Brolin in the movie, which starts shooting in April. Malkovich will play Turnbull, a wealthy Southern plantation owner whose son is killed by Union soldiers during the Civil War. He blames Hex, a former confederate soldier-turned-hardened bounty hunter and gunslinger. Hayward, who has only previously directed the animated Horton Hears a Who, is apparently still directing the same script that Crank duo Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor wrote before they left the project.

Samuel Bayer Directing Nightmare on Elm Street Reboot

Samuel Bayer Directing Nightmare on Elm Street Reboot

As everyone will see in just a few more days, Platinum Dunes has successfully rebooted the Friday the 13th franchise in a good way. So up next for Dunes' producers Brad Fuller and Andrew Form is A Nightmare on Elm Street, the series tormented by the villain Freddy Krueger. We've heard plenty about the idea for the reboot, including that Arachnophobia and Cape Fear writer Wesley Strick has been working on the script, but we didn't know who would be directing. Thanks to a tip on the Risky Business blog, we've learned that music video director Samuel Bayer will be taking on this new Nightmare on Elm Street.

San Francisco's WonderCon Movie Presentation Line-Up!

Welcome to WonderCon

From one convention to the next! San Diego Comic-Con's little sister, WonderCon, has just announced their panels and presentations for this year. I hate to say it, but I'm a bigger fan of WonderCon than I am of the New York Comic Con. It's a smaller version of the "big" San Diego Comic-Con, but it's the perfect size, it's not too crowded, and they always have great presentations. This year's line-up is quite impressive, even moreso than the NYCC (even though there are some repeats), so I'm glad to announce it today. As always, I will yet again be traveling to San Francisco for WonderCon to bring you of all the latest coverage.

Rumor: Wachowskis Directing Rebooted Superman Trilogy?!

Superman

Whoa, whoa, let's just take a second to soak all of this in. A source wrote in to Ain't It Cool News saying that he was watching a TV show in Germany where V for Vendetta and Ninja Assassin director James McTeigue was being interviewed. McTeigue said that due to the shake up of projects at Warner Brothers (i.e. they put all DC Comics movies on hold until they could figure out a new strategy), the Wachowskis were off of their latest superhero project called Plastic Man. Instead, they were approached by WB execs to reboot the Superman franchise as a trilogy and they're currently weighing their options before making a decision.
