Samuel Jackson Signs Nine Movie Deal as Nick Fury!

Samuel Jackson as Nick Fury

Back in January, we ran a rather disappointing article about Samuel Jackson potentially not returning as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Nick Fury in any upcoming Marvel movies. But it looks like that rumor couldn't have been any further from the truth. Jackson has signed one for not one, not two, but a total of nine upcoming movies for Marvel which will contain Nick Fury in some capacity, starting with Iron Man 2 and also including Thor, Captain America, The Avengers, any of their sequels, and even potentially a S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off. This was announced by Marvel today and confirmed by Variety, so it's not just another rumor.

Must Watch: Greg Mottola's Adventureland Red Band Trailer

Adventureland Red Band Trailer

Miramax has debuted a crazy red band trailer for Adventureland, the 80's coming-of-age comedy from Superbad director Greg Mottola, on IGN tonight. The funny thing is that I wasn't sure why they'd need a red band trailer for this movie at first, but obviously it's pretty self explanatory once you watch it, with text and all. It's actually a great movie, whether or not this trailer or the previous trailer does a better job of showing that. I saw this up at Sundance and thoroughly enjoyed it, so if you enjoyed this, I'd also suggest you read my review. Just don't forget to actually see this in theaters once it hits in the next month or so.

Alex Proyas Explains Why He Decided to Direct Knowing

Knowing

So you get to talk with Alex Proyas, director of such cult classics as The Crow and Dark City, what do you ask him? How about why he would choose to direct Knowing next? Okay, maybe that's a bit too harsh, because I actually really like Proyas and still think he did a great job with I, Robot, but that is the actual question that SciFi asked Proyas in their interview. Fortunately, he gave a good answer that reasonably explained why this is not the next sci-fi flop and that it is actually something we should probably be excited about. Now I just want to know why he chose to cast Nicholas Cage instead of someone else better?

Beautiful New Poster for John Woo's Red Cliff

Beautiful New Poster for John Woo's Red Cliff

Although I'm not particularly a big John Woo fan, I was actually very interested in seeing Red Cliff, probably because I was hoping it'd be a throwback to his older films in some way. For those unaware, Red Cliff is a two part ancient Chinese history war epic that Woo shot in 2007. It actually debuted theatrically in China last July, but oddly, no US distributor ever bought it. It went on to make the most money in Chinese box office history (roughly $44 million), yet it still has no US distributor or film festival plans. However, we do have a new Australian poster to remind us that we're still not sure when we'll ever see Red Cliff.

Joss Whedon Explains Why DC Comics Movies Don't Work

DC Comics

Speaking of DC Comics, a fascinating bit of commentary from "Buffy", "Angel" and "Firefly" mastermind Joss Whedon has hit the web today courtesy of The Geek Files (via SlashFilm). In it, Joss explains why he thinks DC Comics movies don't work so well. And I've got to say, his reasons are just a bit brilliant, like all things Joss Whedon. In essence, he says that DC Comics' characters are "too mythological and god-like to connect to audiences." If you're a DC fan and that gets you riled up, then I encourage you to read onwards, because he explains this issue in a lot more detail and it actually does make a lot of sense, in theory.

Michael Cera Officially On Board for Arrested Development Movie?

Michael Cera in Arrested Development

Since Jeffrey Tambor (aka George Bluth Sr.) said without equivocation last November that an "Arrested Development" feature film "is a go," we've been hesitant to report on details surrounding the project. Despite Tambor's confidence, there has been wave after wave of rumor surrounding the Bluth family's big screen debut. The latest news is centered on Michael Cera, who reportedly has been the lone holdout from the series' original cast. The prospect of an "Arrested Development" film with no George-Michael Bluth is enough to cast doubt on the entire project. So should we believe E!'s inside source claiming that Cera has finally signed on? And if we do, does that mean all this speculation can finally be put to rest?

Seth Rogen Explains Why They Chose Michel Gondry for Green Hornet

Michel Gondry - The Green Hornet

When I first heard the news that Michel Gondry would be directing Seth Rogen's The Green Hornet, I wasn't sure whether to believe it at first. While I love Gondry, he just doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would direct a big-budget superhero movie - or so I thought. Rogen, who spoke with MTV recently about the news, enthusiastically explained why he is actually the perfect choice and even goes so far as to explain how they got him to begin with. After sending him the script, Gondry loved it so much that he shot a fight scene to try and prove to Sony that he could do it and make it look good - without using any cardboard.

Exclusive: Zack Snyder's Thoughts on Adapting Dark Knight Returns

Batman: The Dark Knight Returns

So the story goes that at the San Diego Comic-Con last year, during the Watchmen panel, Zack Snyder said that he "would love to see Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns made into a movie." Following all the hype surrounding that statement, Frank Miller was asked if he would give Zack his blessing to adapt that graphic novel, which he would. So of course, the next logical step would be to go back to Zack and ask him how he might adapt the story, even though there's a distinct possibility that Warner Brothers will never ever allow this, especially with Christopher Nolan's version of Batman earning them billions of dollars.

Guillermo del Toro Wants to Remake Count of Monte Cristo

Guillermo del Toro

One of my personal all-time favorite movies is Kevin Reynolds' The Count of Monte Cristo, the one from 2002, not the old black and white versions. Anyone who has seen it or read Alexandre Dumas' book knows why it's such an incredible story. I couldn't ever imagine anyone adapting it again, but if there's one person I might allow to do just that, it would be Guillermo del Toro. He already has enough projects on his plate to last him a lifetime, but in a recent chat with MTV, del Toro talked about one of his dreams, which was adapting The Count of Monte Cristo again as a "gothic-western" titled The Left Hand of Darkness.

Two Upcoming Projects for Will Ferrell and Matt Damon

Will Ferrell and Matt Damon

Sorry, that headline is a bit deceiving - no, Will Ferrell and Matt Damon are not going to be starring in the same movie, but Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg will be! An interesting article hit Variety today that outlined two separate projects, one from Will Ferrell and one from Matt Damon, that are looking to get picked up be studios and greenlit for release in 2010. Ferrell's project is an action comedy called B Team to be directed by Adam McKay (Anchorman, Talladega Nights, Step Brothers). Damon's project is a contemporary sci-fi love story called The Adjustment Bureau based on a Philip K. Dick short story.

Check This Out: Alternate Ending to Back to the Future

Back to the Future

Roads? Where we're going, we don't need roads. We all know that unforgettable ending to Back to the Future, but what if there was an alternate version? Better yet, what if they took that concept one step further? Thanks to YouTube user TheHappyEntertainer, we get to see a never-before-seen alternate ending to Back to the Future that has been shielded from the public since 1985. And it is pretty damn funny. I love throwing a few of these comical videos into the mix every so often, and this is a great week to feature one.

Astro Boy is Back on Track for an October Debut

Imagi Animation - Astro Boy

It would only be the right thing to do to report that Imagi Animation Studios has received an extra $25 million in financing in order to continue work on their feature films. Back in late January, we exclusively reported that Imagi had run out of money and was shutting down temporarily until it could figure out what to do. Variety confirmed today via Imagi's US president Erin Corbett that they have received the funding they needed and will resume operations this week. This means Astro Boy is still on track for its October 23rd release from Summit and that work will continue on their other projects, Gatchaman and Tusker.
