ShoWest: G.I. Joe Footage was Quite a Cheesy Let Down
Before I head off to play some poker in Vegas, I've got to write up my reaction to the five minutes (or so) of new G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra footage that Paramount showed before a screening of The Soloist. I've got to admit, Paramount has had a bad track record with this footage. Every year they screen one of their movies at ShoWest, and every year they show some preview footage before it. The first year I went it was Transformers, and I didn't like what I saw (at the time), last year it was The Love Guru, I don't think I need to say more. This year it was G.I. Joe, and it was also pretty bad, but maybe I'm jumping the gun?

Another New Trailer for Sony's The Taking of Pelham 123
Sony has debuted a second new full length trailer for the remake of The Taking of Pelham 123. We've already seen a trailer for this, but this one steps ups the action, and explains a bit more of the story, in hopes to actually sell some new audiences. My guess is that first trailer didn't go over so well, so this one is a better attempt at getting the summer audiences in theaters in June. Does it really look any good? I'm not sure, but I guess I'd say it's one of the movies I am still excited to see this summer. At least for the action and for Denzel Washington and John Travolta, who look like two great leads. Who is still planning on catching this?

First Early Details on Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr. Fox
Three evil, angry farmers, tired of sharing their chickens with a sly fox, band together in order to get rid of their opponent and the rest of his family. That, in short, is the story behind Fantastic Mr. Fox, Wes Anderson's latest film set to release November 6th of this year. Following The Darjeeling Limited, Fantastic Mr. Fox is both a departure and an expected evolution for Anderson. And since we haven't heard much about this yet, it's a perfect time to introduce everyone to the story and this particular adaptation. That is the official logo above, courtesy of a shot by JoBlo, that comes from the show floor at ShoWest in Vegas.

ShoWest: Sherlock Holmes is a Comedy? Is It That Bad?
Earlier today at ShoWest in Las Vegas, Warner Brothers president Alan Horn lead a "State of the Industry" presentation, and debuted the first trailer for Sherlock Holmes. The first thing you need to know is that this isn't the Sherlock Holmes you know... It a funky way, it's kind of like if Snatch were about a British detective from the 1800s, which is exactly what it is, thanks to Guy Ritchie writing and directing. The reaction didn't seem to be overly positive, at least coming from a few other writers that I know. It is a bit of a shock at first, because it's such a big departure from expectations, and I hope most people still like it.

Disney Updates: Toy Story in 3D in October, Alice in Wonderland Going IMAX, and More!
I just stepped out Disney's big presentation at ShoWest with quite a few exciting updates. First and foremost, Disney has announced that both Toy Story and Toy Story 2 will play in 3D as a double feature starting on October 2nd. They have since changed their plans to re-release Toy Story 2 separately in 3D later in early 2010, and will instead run both as a back-to-back feature later this year. Additionally, it was announced that Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland will show in both regular digital 3D and IMAX 3D next March 5th when it hits theaters. A few more announcements were also made during the presentation.

First Official Photos from Thomas Jane's Dark Country
Ex-Frank Castle, actor Thomas Jane, has been directing a 3D horror film called Dark Country for the last year or so. We actually haven't ever written about this, even though I remember following it closely. My guess is that Jane and company have been hard at work getting this ready for its 3-D presentation. However, thanks to our friends at Quiet Earth, we finally have some official photos from the film, mainly featuring Jane's character's classic car, but they are officially our very first look. Apparently there are a lot of interesting supernatural elements to this, so as basic as these photos look, expect to see more in theaters.

Paul Bettany to Star in Adaptation of TokyoPop's Priest
Other than the title and the most basic plot summary, not a whole lot else was known about Screen Gems' adaptation of the TokyoPop comic Priest when we last talked about it in December. But it's looking as if director Scott Stewart may have found his perfect priest. According to THR, Paul Bettany is in negotiations to star and Stewart says that since working with Bettany on their most recent film Legion, that "Bettany was Priest." In a world wrecked by centuries of violent warfare between man and vampire, a warrior priest turns against the church in order to save his kidnapped niece from a homicidal gang of vampires.

The Film Feed: Episode 08 - The Geek Tournament Begins
In this episode of The Film Feed, hosts Will, Clark, and Sean sort through a slew of movie news and the posters of the week. Slowly being turned by Will, Sean admits his growing hatred for anime as well as his growing adoration for the Where the Wild Things Are trailer, which is a feeling shared by Clark. The episode finishes with a group review of the indie flick INK, a review of Monsters vs. Aliens from Will and Clark, and the beginning stages of the hopefully soon to be popular "Geek Tournament." Be sure to listen for voting information towards the end of the show. Thanks for listening and be sure to tune in every week.

Brutally Awesome Poster for Sam Raimi's Drag Me to Hell!
Ever since I caught an early screening of Sam Raimi's return to classic horror Drag Me to Hell earlier this year, I've been anxious to see how Universal would eventually market it to audiences. While I wasn't exactly blown away by the official trailer, I've been particularly anxious to see what the poster would look like. Well, ShockTillYouDrop finally debuted it tonight, and Universal definitely knocked this one of the park! This may already be my favorite poster of the year, although it's a bit too early to make that call, but I love this, I absolutely love the look of it! Smart designs are the very best, and this poster is truly fantastic!

Paramount Gives the Star Trek Sequel an Early Greenlight!
In advance of its May 8th release, Paramount has already preemptively greenlit a sequel to J.J. Abrams' Star Trek, and has confirmed that screenwriters Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci will be back. Joining those two, however, will be Damon Lindelof, a Paramount producer and writer for "Lost" who helped get this Star Trek reboot off the ground with J.J. Abrams to begin with. No decision has been made on whether Abrams will return to direct the sequel. Although we can expect to hear a lot more about this in May, soon after it hits theaters. It looks like Abrams has indeed already successfully rebooted this franchise!

Jonathan Levine's Next Project is The Sitter for Fox Atomic
One of my favorite directors, Jonathan Levine, who directed the Sundance hit The Wackenss as well as All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, has signed with Fox Atomic to direct the comedy The Sitter. Described as Adventures in Babysitting meets Superbad, The Sitter follows a college student, suspended for the semester and living at home with his mom, who has a night to remember when he gets talked into baby-sitting the eccentric kids next door -- two boys and a wild 8-year-old girl. Obviously, the success of this hinges on who they get to play the lead role, because if he's perfectly cast and funny, this could be pretty damn good.

Justin Long and Drew Barrymore Join Going the Distance
New Line's upcoming romantic comedy Going the Distance has finally cast its two leads. Justin Long and Drew Barrymore have officially signed on to play opposite of each other. Although I don't follow celebrity gossip, this is a bit interesting considering the two were dating and supposedly broke up recently in real life. Written by Geoff LaTulippe and to be directed by Nanette Burstein, Going the Distance is a comedy about a young couple navigating their way through the perils of a long distance relationship who quickly discover that "going the distance" might cost them everything they have, including one another.
