Kevin Smith Directing A Couple of Dicks Next? Confirmed!

We've already heard a few details about the next couple of projects that Kevin Smith will be directing, including his horror film Red State and a sci-fi comedy, but there's another new project that Smith will supposedly be directing next - A Couple of Dicks. The ERC BoxOffice is claiming that Warner Brothers has hired Smith to direct the comedy, which will star Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan and is set for release in January of 2010. Even more interesting is that A Couple of Dicks wasn't written by Smith, but by first-time screenwriters Robb and Marc Cullen (of TV shows like "Heist" and "Las Vegas" previously) instead.
This is the first time we've ever heard of this, but it looks like a good fit for Smith. The screenplay for A Couple of Dicks was featured on the Black List last year, which means it might actually be really good. The plot involves "two veteran LAPD detectives [who] attempt to track down a stolen, mint-condition, 1952 baseball card." Robin Williams was originally attached, but it looks like Bruce Willis has replaced him. While I love anything that Kevin Smith does, it might be rather exciting seeing him step out of his normal bounds and direct a comedy that he didn't write with a big star like Willis. We'll keep you updated!
Updated: Variety has confirmed that all of this is accurate. Kevin Smith will be directing and Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan will be starring. Only change is that the title will now be A Couple of Cops.

This reminds me of that phone call Willis made to Smith on the Fourth of July saying that they should work together. "What's up Bruce?", "Oh you know, just celebrating the birth of our nations independence."…Haha.
Anyone's who's seen Smith's latest "Threeveneving with Kevin Smith" knows what I'm talking about.

Awesome. Everything with smith attached is great! Until proven otherwise.
It was really about time for him stepping out of his comfort zone. Seems pretty logical to me.

Can't wait to see Smith direct a feature film that someone else wrote, should be good. I'm glad him and Bruce found a way to work together again.

Glad Mr. Smith and Mr. Willis are working together on something, let alone Smith direct somebody's script.

#3, yeah, I watched it not too long ago and was wondering if he'd ever get to it.
Too bad we'll never see Dig Dug.
