Barry Sonnenfeld Helming Scandal Makers Remake
March 3, 2009
by Alex Billington
Men in Black's Barry Sonnenfeld is set to direct and produce an English-language remake of the 2008 Korean hit Scandal Makers. The story focuses on a "philandering pop singer whose life is turned upside-down when he discovers that he has a daughter and a grandson." Not exactly an original story that we haven't seen before, but Sonnenfeld still praises it. "I was immediately attracted to Scandal Makers because of its universal themes," Sonnenfeld said. "It is funny, intelligent and full of heart." He doesn't yet have a distributor and is currently looking for a studio that will partner with him on the project.
In December we announced that Barry Sonnenfeld would also be directing The How-To Guide for Saving the World, an alien action comedy from screenwriter BenDavid Grabinski. Sonnenfeld is definitely in need of a set of good movies if he wants to make a comeback, since the last few things on his filmography are Men in Black II in 2002 and RV in 2006. Unfortunately this Scandal Makers project doesn't sound like the kind of thing that will change my mind, but on the flip side, The How-To Guide for Saving the World is something I want to see him actually direct. Only time will tell whether or not he's still got it in him.

Hey, I know it's not the big screen but he did direct and produce a couple episodes of Pushing Daisies, which is hilarious. I recommend if you haven't seen.
