Disney's latest live-action fantasy movie (in the same vein as Enchanted) is The Sorcerer's Apprentice, as we've written about before, being directed by Jon Turteltaub and starring Nicolas Cage and Jay Baruchel. SlashFilm has an exciting casting scoop announcing Alfred Molina as the villain, an evil sorcerer who is most likely the nemesis of the good sorcerer. As we already know, The Sorcerer's Apprentice is a live-action adaptation of the classic Mickey Mouse story from Fantasia, where Cage will star as the sorcerer and Baruchel the young apprentice. Shooting starts soon in New York City for an expected late 2009 debut.
I believe that casting Alfred Molina as Doc Ock in Spider-Man 2 was one of the greatest casting choices ever made, right alongside of Heath Ledger as The Joker. While The Sorcerer's Apprentice isn't exactly as extraordinary as either of those, I'm still considerably excited for it, primarily because I loved Enchanted and I've got a feeling this is going to be a very similar kind of movie. So seeing Molina cast in this is probably more exciting to me than learning that he had joined Prince of Persia, another Disney movie that I'm very excited about. In essence, Molina is one of my favorite actors, and I'm glad to see him join!

Oh yeah, he's playing Maxim Horvath — Nichola's Cage's enemy from when they were young apprentices. They were planning on having the Chernabog for the climax of the movie, but apparently he's now been cut from the budget. Oh well. *sigh* What a shame.
He looks SOOOOO different in Prince of Persia, to the point where he's unrecognisable. The did to him what they did to Depp for Jack Sparrow–but with a turban and long beard.

Alright Molina! I love that guy! He is one of the best actors. Very selective in what roles he plays. I read before he only takes roles that interest him and challenge him, and if you look at his past performances (both on stage and in movies) you can see its very true.
woooo! best news all week for sure!

Wait, what? They've not even started shooting the film yet, and they're projecting a late 2009 release date?
That is a huge red flag right there.
