Medieval Script Sells to New Regency, McG Not Confirmed?

We've been hearing a lot of buzz in Hollywood recently about a screenplay called Medieval written by newcomers Alex Litvak and Michael Finch. Their screenplay sold in a studio battle for upwards of $1 million to New Regency Pictures, who has a distribution deal with Fox, although they haven't set any plans for this yet. Medieval's story is described as The Dirty Dozen set in medieval times. It's been called a "badass script" about seven imprisoned men - a gypsy, a thief, a samurai, a knight, a monk, an Arab and a Viking. New Regency is hoping to spin it into a "hyper-realistic action movie" similar to Zack Snyder's 300.
Initially, Production Weekly stated on Twitter that McG was attached as director. However, the Hollywood Reporter has no mention of McG, and considering he's already involved with the two Terminator follow-ups as well as 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Dead Spy Running, I doubt it's something that he'd actually do (unless it's years from now). Thus I think McG's name must have been temporary, or something they were throwing around to consider, although that's since passed. Whatever the case, New Regency better find the right director, because Medieval sounds like it has some awesome potential!

Wow that does sound badass. Definately looking forward to this one.
I can see the cast now, Johnny Depp as the gypsy, Colin Farrel as the thief, Ken Watanabe as the Samurai, Liam Neeson as the Knight, Daniel Day-Lewis as the Monk, Dev Patel as the Arab, and Brendon Gleeson as the Viking.

Sounds like several things I enjoy rolled into one. Ensemble cast, set in medieval days, and a great script. (If that's what it is.)
@1 - I like the casting ideas! I'd add some suggestions, but I'd like to know more than a category type for each character.
So it says that New Regency is hoping to spin it into a "hyper-realistic action move" similar to Zack Snyder's 300. I like that idea for telling this type of story. I wonder if it will skirt the line between historic medieval and medieval fantasy. In any case, this is a project I'll be following.

Sounds like it has a funny plot to it, good be interesting. Funny if they make it a mock of 300, at the same time I could see that joke getting old very fast in a full movie.

I read the script; it's the worst piece of garbage I've ever read in my life. It's completely idiotic. No one should be excited about this.

Sounds like dreck.
Everytime they try to render a historical period as 'culturally balanced' they end up with a insipid rubbish like 'The Last Legion' because the historical periods don't come -close- to matching and the distance and language barriers are totally ignored.
Junk drama for drooling morons.
