It's Confirmed - No Judd Apatow for Ghostbusters 3!

Earlier this week, a rumor that Ghostbusters 3 had become a Judd Apatow Production started spreading. I didn't write about it because I just didn't believe it, or at least, I didn't trust Production Weekly. Well, the LA Times talked with Columbia Pictures' president Doug Belgrad and got an official "it's not true" today. It was confirmed last year that "The Office" writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky were writing a script, as Belgrad mentions, but he says Judd isn't involved. "Judging from the frenzy [online], there still seems to be plenty of interest in the idea of doing another film, so we're certainly taking that as a good sign."
It's not the end of the world if Judd Apatow isn't involved with Ghostbusters 3. That was all just wishful thinking to begin with, anyway. Oddly enough, when we first ran the rumor about a sequel/reboot of Ghostbusters being in the works, the response was almost entirely negative. But when Eisenberg and Stupnitsky got on board, it made some people optimistic. Of course, it would've been great to see Apatow do this, but just because he's not involved doesn't mean it'll instantly suck. Plus, the original creative team behind Ghostbusters is involved as informal consultants on this anyway, so why is everyone worried?

Well, if the original Ghostbusters creative team is consulting on this movie, then it's gonna be AWESOME…(sarcasm)…is that the same team that brought us Ghostbusters 2? - or as it's informally known "The movie that killed the Ghostbusters franchise forever"?

I was afraid he was going to do it and bring in his usual cast and…just awww fuck. It would have sucked. Now I have some hope. Very little until more news, but some.

As much as I love Judd Apatow, I have to agree, he's not the right guy to do this movie. Man I hope it gets made though.

Ghostbusters 2 wasn't their fault.
Murray, ramis, etc signed on to a script that wasn't the same one when they got on set. There was a clause and it was re drafted by studios to something more… sellable.

Seriously, don't knock the "original" creative team of Ramis and Akroyd. Those two are geniuses, and I hope they give a lot to the new script, because I would hate for this to become a movie-that-killed-the-franchise scenerio like Indian Jones.

I'm glad he's not doing this. His movies are good, but I think he would've fucked this up. I'm glad the original team is on board, I'm not saying that's gonna make it great, but at least it stays in the same hands, and I don't have to see Paul Rudd, Seth Rogan, Jonah Hill as Ghostbusters.

I heard that Dan Aykroyd had an idea of sending the Ghostbusters through to another dimension which will be Hell but in New York. I really like that idea. I just hope they find a really great director who is also a Ghostbusters fan to do this. I really can't wait for this movie.

Why would anybody want that guy doing the movie anyhow?? Only thing he would do is screw it all up and make the Ghostbusters smoke pot the movie!! Now I find some of his stuff quite funny but his humor is not Ghostbusters humor!! I hope this movie gets made with the original cast being more of the main focus of the film…So there older, slower, and fatter. Sounds like you can do a lot of funny using their age against them. Damn I love being right!!
