Official Trailer for John Crowley's Is Anybody There?
March 8, 2009

I'm going to make a confession - I love magicians and all things magic. It all began when I was a kid and was obsessed with performing magic, but even today, I still love seeing it. I also love Michael Caine, so seeing him and magic come together in The Prestige a few years ago was like a dream come true. Now along comes Is Anybody There?, a very British indie film starring Michael Caine as an aging magician. That's enough to sell me, but for those who need a bit more, Caine's character Clarence is old and losing his mind, but when he moves into an old person's home and meets a young boy, the two learn to face life together.
The blank black spaces in the trailer are spots where text is supposed to be, but for some odd reason, it never shows up. Apologies for the lack of filler text and titles at the end, as that's how it originally came!

Set in 1980s seaside England, this is the story of Edward, an unusual ten year old boy growing up in an old people's home. Increasingly obsessed with ghosts, Edward's is a rather lonely existence until he meets Clarence, the latest recruit to the home, a retired magician with a liberating streak of anarchy.
Is Anybody There? is directed by British filmmaker John Crowley, who has only directed Intermission and Boy A previously. The screenplay was written by TV writer Peter Harness, of Frankie Howerd: Rather You Than Me previously. This first premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year where it was picked up by Optimum Releasing. Is Anybody There? arrives in very limited theaters starting on April 17th.

Ah, I see this as a real nice 'feel good film' where the older guy dies at the end.
Kind of like The Bucket List 2. But Im not complaining, I enjoyed the Bucket List.
Any word on a larger release?

As #1 said, this is gonna be one of those feel good films again
But i like to feel good, so Im actually waiting a lot for this! The trailer looks really good and Michael Caine looks like such a sympatic old man. Hope that boy gets far in his acting, he was such a fun lad in Son Of Rambow and looks pretty decent in this one too!

This looks great. A bit odd not seeing the name of the movie at the end of the trailer, but the film itself looks like a perfect break from all of the summer blockbusters. (I'm assuming that very limited release will spread to a regular limited release by about June)

This film IS great. Fantastic acting, script, storyline. A beautiful movie that deserves a wider release. But then it's a British quality drama - who's going to want to see one of those? (And yes, that was sarcasm, before anyone asks…)

Michael Caine is just simply amazing.. no one performs and delivers such character like he does - I could watch him all day long. I'm looking forward to this.
