Five More to Stay at Whedon's Cabin in the Woods
March 10, 2009
by Brandon Lee Tenney
A while back we covered a little bit of rumor mill fodder regarding the forthcoming genre-subverting, Joss Whedon-written, Drew Goddard-directed horror film Cabin in the Woods. Well, THR is reporting some official casting decisions five times over. Joining the previously announced duo of Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford are actors Kristen Connolly (Revolutionary Road), Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek), Anna Hutchison ("Underbelly"), Fran Kranz ("Dollhouse"), and Jesse Williams ("Beyond the Break"). As for the characters that this gaggle will be playing, that's being strictly withheld by the filmmakers.
Though the official plot synopsis is also being kept under wraps, from this casting it's easy to see that the usual horror casting of attractive twenty-somethings is in full force (see photos above for reference). Joss Whedon had this to say of the bunch, "Finding this ensemble has been very hard and very rewarding. Each of the 'kids' is unique, fascinating and talented, and like true friends, the group is more than the sum of its parts. These are people you care about, able to go toe to toe with the amazing actors we've corralled thus far, and not unpretty in the bargain. I can't wait to harm them." What do you think of the latest cast additions?
Cabin in the Woods is set to release February 5th 2010, having been pushed back from October 23rd of this year presumably to avoid any competition with the potential and usual release of the next Saw film. And although we've only the slightest amount of confirmed details, I think this mystery is a good thing. We often go into every film nowadays with so much preconceived information that it's hard to be at all surprised. Mystery is underrated, for some reason. So I'm quite happy to see that Whedon and Goddard are at least giving it their best shot at keeping some secrets. Does this mystery peek your interest or turn you off?

No clue about these actors but in horror movies that is usually a good thing. It's hard to develop a horror movie who is known for other works. We are due for a good one because Saw will suck like usual. Hopefully this has potential.

As someone who's read the script I can tell you that, yes, they've casted the group of hot twenty-somethings but that it actually works as a pretty integral part of the story. It's not just hot people for hot people's sake.
As for character: Chris would be playing Curt, a jock and Holden's best friend. Jesse would be playing Holden, a jock and love interest of the lead girl. Anna (based on the fact that she was on Underbelly and one of the roles calls for nudity) would be playing Jules, Curt's girlfriend. And Kristin would be playing the lead girl, Dana. Oh, Franz would most definitely be playing Marty, the resident stoner.
As far as the movie goes it both IS and ISN'T AT ALL what you're expecting from a movie about a cabin in the woods.

LOVE Jesse Williams!! Saved Sisterhood 2! saw him off broadway in a freaking Edward Albee play too. Fran Kranz was funny in White Pants, also a stoner, and Weiners. I'm freaking excited for the great unknown and Jenkns and Whitford and the masterminds behind it!!!!!!!

Anna is a great kiwi actress - recently seen on New Zealand screens in the awesome show "Go Girls".
You should check it out.
She's a former kid star here and definately one to watch!
She has done a wide range of roles from kids roles in "Power rangers", 'adult' roles in "Underbelly" and "Go Girls" (in which she is also signed to start filming series 2 soon) is a great wee comedy/drama show.
