Worth Watching - Mar 17: Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre Trailer
March 17, 2009
by Alex Billington
Okay horror fans, this one is for you! Thanks to Twitch, the trailer for Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre has arrived, and it's about as odd and creepy as you can get for a horror/thriller set on the open sea. First things first, yes, this is in English, even though it's a Icelandic production and directed by a Icelandic filmmaker. Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre is "an epic tale about a group of whale watchers, whose ship breaks down and they get picked up by a whale fisher vessel. The Fishbillies on the vessel have just gone bust, and everything goes out of control." It's actually looks pretty damn cool, so check it out.

For more info, head over to the official website: kisi.is/movies/rwwm/
Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre is directed by Icelandic filmmaker Júlíus Kemp, of Blossi/810551 and Wallpaper: An Erotic Love Story previously. The screenplay was written by Sjón Sigurdsson, of Regína and Anna and the Moods previously. The film stars all Icelandic actors, including the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre's Leatherface, Gunnar Hansen, who plays Captain Pétur. This will hit theaters in Iceland courtesy of Sam Film in September of 2009, though it doesn't have a US distributor just yet. We can expect to hear more on this in the next few months, as I expect it to show up in the Cannes film market. Stay tuned!

Som it's a movie about how a whale-killer gets put out of business by the greenies, his wife leaves him, and he decides to take his revenge upon them!!

This looks like liquid dog shit. Firstshowing reviews are starting to suck these days. Either you reviewers are growing to like dumb shit as you age and or you are just limiting yourself to watching strictly garbage. Upload trailers for films that are actually aesthetically pleasing and worth watching instead of this kind of crap.

Wow. As much as I thought nick, you're an asshole, that was a really terrible trailer. Pretty bad.

Pretty juicy sound effects. Sounds like they massacred an entire fruit section at the grocery.

after midnight meat train, this looks pretty tame.

Nr. 14, why would you say Iceland will be pissed? This is an Icelandic production with Icelandic cast. So why would we get pissed off? I am pretty excited about seeing an Icelandic horror film at last.

This movie looks like complete shit. We are all now dumber for seeing this. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Don't really see why people think this movie looks bad. Sure, the trailer could have been a little flashier but the idea is great, the direction looks solid, the acting (what we saw of it) looks better than most horror, it's foreign (which, in terms of horror, usually means "better"), and it looks violent as hell. And since it's movie about being stuck on a boat with killers, it's going to have that nice claustrophobic feel that works so well in horror. Looks great…I'll be keeping an eye out.

Oh, and one more thing…how many of you that said this looks bad are creaming themselves at the trailer for Transformers 2? Because that trailer makes it look like that's going to be an even worse movie than the first one…pure Noise Porn.

Who wouldn't kill someone if they were in a movie this slow and boring (felt like a 30min clip). can't be too good if they have already shown us the killers face. maybe the other ten people on the boat can team up . he olny has a axe.

I haven't seen the movie, but the trailer seems pretty good. I mean you can't really call this shit when you look at the pile that we call horror now.

S.O.S.
The term "Slasher" movie is outdated. It should be "Hack" movie.
The term succeds on many levels.
By the way, the "juicy" noise is an old school sound effect - an ax hitting a cabbage I'm guessing.
And Alex, your reviews are pretty sad….

No matter how much fake blood & latex limbs director Kemp uses, nothing except a documentary could compare with the actual, real-life terror, suffering & horror being perpetrated on REAL WHALES out in the REAL OCEAN by REAL WHALERS.
Imaging having an explosive grenade fired into your guts, then being dragged backwards in an attempt to drown you – as if you weren't already dying fast enough! And it's completely unnecessary from any practical point of view. Whaling only exists to amortize whale boats & perpetuate an outdated and brutal industry. Freezers in Iceland and Japan are overflowing with unwanted whale meat.
If you're going to see this movie, why not send the price of admission to Sea Shepherd, stay home and watch this season's "Whale Wars" on Animal Planet? They filmed some whales being harpooned, I hear, so there will be blood and guts aplenty… REAL BLOOD, REAL GUTS, REAL VIOLENCE against harmless, intelligent creatures.
Now THAT's a horror movie!

But whale meat is delicious - what's not exploded anyway.

Gakera,
Properly prepared, I'm sure you too would make a tasty entry in the Hannibal Lectre Cookbook. But the odds of me eating you, or whale meat, are about the same: zip.

Ok, I just wanna say ONE thing! I'm Icelandic and this is our FIRST horrorfilm! Common, give us credid for making something that good at the first try!

I forgot, I just wanted to say, like 2% of our population eats whale meat, and our freezers are not overflowing… Where do you get your source? Just asking…
Svo þið sem eruð að böggast í þessarri mynd getið bara haldið kjafti takk fyrir!!!
