Bryan Singer Interested in Mark Wahlberg's Prisoners?

A couple of weeks ago we ran a story about a hot script floating around Hollywood called The Prisoners that Mark Wahlberg has just attached himself to. In the same vein as Taken and Gran Torino, the script is about a Boston dad who takes the law into his own hands when his young daughter is kidnapped. The script was written by newcomer Aaron Guzikowski and has been compared to The Silence of the Lambs and Se7en. As of first reporting the news, no studio or director was attached, although they're all buzzing about, but now Entertainment Weekly is reporting that Valkyrie director Bryan Singer is very interested.
When asked if The Prisoners might be his next project, Singer told EW: "I don't know yet. But I'm definitely intrigued. It's a great script. And I'd love to work with Mark." I'd love to read the script, but I'm quite hesitant, because I don't want to spoil the experience and would rather just wait to see it in theaters. Singer's last two movies - Superman Returns and Valkyrie - haven't exactly garnered the greatest praise from critics or audiences, which is why this might make sense for him. Maybe he'll go all the way back to his Usual Suspects roots and direct The Prisoners, which could be great, because I still do really like Singer.

I'm glad Singer is interested hopefully the script is as good as the hype says it is and we'll get another great crime thriller….Walhberg is a great actor when working with a good director and a solid script…I hope Singer can get a Paul Thomas Anderson/Scorsese performance from him…after the Happening and Max Payne he's in need of a quality boost to his projects…I'm still waiting on a trailer for Lovely Bones…wish Jackson would release one already

No Superman sequel! Hooray! Dances on its grave. I don't want any part of the catastrophe of 'Superman Returns' to be carried into the reboot.

Singer is a B-List director/producer with an A-List reputation. I'd give the Usual Suspects credit to Kevin Spacey, the first two X-Men movies were okay, every House M.D. is redundant and Superman Returns/Valkyrie were so awful that I shudder just thinking about them. I see no reason to be excited for anything with Brian Singer's name attached to it.

I actually really liked Superman Returns. This may be blasphemy, but I think it's the best modern super hero movie . . . ever. Yes, better than The Dark Knight.

Alex… The film title is just "Prisoners". There is no "The" attached to the front of it.
And I have read the script for it. I started it at 3AM, and it was so good I read straight through, despite the fact that my eyes were practically bleeding from exhaustion. It was really that good. The ending is absolutely phenomenal. I can't put into the words how amazing it really is. There's a reason why it was the hottest script in Hollywood.
And to naysayers…it is nowhere near a rip off of "Taken". It's almost nothing like it.
