Freida Pinto Also Joins Julian Schnabel's Miral
March 25, 2009
by Alex Billington
Slumdog Millionaire's beautiful Freida Pinto has landed her next role after Woody Allen's latest. Pinto is joining Miral, an adaptation of Italo-Palestinian Rula Jebreal's book about Hind Husseini who founded an orphanage in Jerusalem in the wake of the 1948 partition of Palestine and the creation of the state of Israel. The screenplay was written by and the film will be directed by Julian Schnabel, the incredibly talanted filmmaker behind the Oscar nominated film The Diving Bell and the Butterfly as well as Before Night Falls. Pinto joins alongside of actress Hiam Abbas, also seen in The Visitor, who will play Hind Husseini.
Principal photography begins in April, with shooting taking place in Israel and the Palestinian Territories. Schnabel is hoping to complete Miral by spring 2010. The book which this is based on is currently only available in Italian, however, Schnabel is working on an English translation of it which he hopes to release at the same time as the film. To be honest, this is one of those projects that we probably won't hear about until it's finished, but given that I loved Diving Bell and the Butterfly, I'm going to be keeping a close eye on this. In the meantime, I suggest everyone watch The Diving Bell and the Butterfly if you haven't yet.

This is her first real acting opportunity and I think it's an interesting story and she should do a good job. Looking forward to reading more about it and her progress in the role.
