Tobey Maguire to Become a Grand Prix Driver in The Limit
March 28, 2009
by Alex Billington
From Peter Parker to jockey Red Pollard to Peter Parker (again) to a Grand Prix driver Phil Hill. Columbia Pictures has announced that Tobey Maguire will both produce and star in the project The Limit. The film tells the story of friends and rivals Phil Hill (who Maguire will play) and Wolfgang von Trips, two Grand Prix drivers on the Ferrari team, who were seated against one another during the 1961 Driver's Championship. Columbia is in final negotiations to pick up the project while up-and-comer Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes, The Human Factor) will write the screenplay, based on the forthcoming book by Michael Cannell.
Maguire owns a production company called Maguire Entertainment, that has projects like Tokyo Suckerpunch and Robotech in the works, but hasn't actually made a film yet. According to Hollywood Reporter, Maguire is being more aggressive about getting a film made, and The Limit is one of the first that will be pushed into production. I won't spoil the outcome of the 1961 Formula One World Drivers' Championship, for those that don't want to know, but I will say that Hill is the only American-born driver to win a Formula One Championship. With some old school Ferrari racing, this should be pretty exciting.

He should get all the filming technique of the racing starting from "Grand Prix"(1966). With the benefit of real race stories, already given. Phill Hill was a character, it may result interesting, hopefully.

To correct you Alex, please note American Mario Andretti also became Formula One World Champion in 1978.
So Phil Hill is not the only American to have become World Champion.
