Jonathan Levine's Next Project is The Sitter for Fox Atomic
March 31, 2009
by Alex Billington
One of my favorite directors, Jonathan Levine, who directed the Sundance hit The Wackenss as well as All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, has signed with Fox Atomic to direct the comedy The Sitter. Described as Adventures in Babysitting meets Superbad, The Sitter follows a college student, suspended for the semester and living at home with his mom, who has a night to remember when he gets talked into baby-sitting the eccentric kids next door — two boys and a wild 8-year-old girl. Obviously, the success of this hinges on who they get to play the lead role, because if he's perfectly cast and funny, this could be pretty damn good.
The screenplay for The Sitter was written by newcomers Brian Gatewood and Alessandro Tanaka. Ghost Rider and 21 producer Michael De Luca is producing for Fox. I will say that although this isn't Levine's own script, he has a very distinct style and it'll be great to see him stretch his legs on a more mainstream comedy. I really loved The Wackness, I mean it's one of my favorite films of all time, and that's due largely to what Levine brought to it, so I really am excited for his follow-up (which is this project) as well as anything else he does in the future. Let's just hope this doesn't turn out as bad as almost every other Fox Atomic film.

I'd rather see a movie in the spirit of Adventures In Babysitting than a flat out remake so, I"m in.

Agree 100% fuelbot, and The Wackness is phenomenal so this has a lot of potential.

Good news is that with Fox Atomic getting shut down, maybe a competent studio will pick this up
Not holding my breath though =P
