X-Men 2 Writer Dan Harris Adapting Dante's Inferno

Dan Harris

So you know that Dante's Inferno video game that EA is producing? We showed you the trailer for the game about a month ago. Well, Universal has finally hired screenwriter Dan Harris to work on a screenplay or their live-action adaptation. Harris' past credits include Urban Chaos Theory, X-Men 2, Imaginary Heroes, Superman Returns, and Until Death most recently. We don't know much about the plot besides the very basics because, well, the game doesn't hit shelves until early 2010. So that's about all we know, but I guess it's good they have a solid screenwriter with some experience assigned to this.

Check This Out: The Book of Eli Behind-the-Scenes Video

The Book of Eli Behind-the-Scenes Video

We've talked a lot about the Hughes Brothers' The Book of Eli recently, namely casting and a few other minor details. Last week we ran some early set photos, but now we have an actual video. Entertainment Tonight (ugh) put up a video from the set with Denzel Washington. The set pretty much looks exactly as it has been described - a post-apocalyptic western. While the reporter in the vieo claims we're watching the "climax" of the movie, I really don't think it is. I'm sure it's just a heated scene involving a shoot out between Denzel and Gary Oldman, but it's probably not the climax. Anyway, check this out if you're interested!

Concept Art from Timur Bekmambetov's Black Lightning

Black Lightning

Last week, we caught very short teaser trailer for a Russian film called Black Lightning, about a flying car, that was supposedly being developed by Wanted director Timur Bekmambetov. It was the first time we had ever heard about it, but it seemed pretty awesome. I didn't end up writing about it because the teaser was so short, that it wasn't worth mentioning, but now we've got some great new concept art today and I can't resist anymore. Black Lightning, in essence, is about a a student at a university in Moscow who comes into possession of a sleek flying car that sort of turns him into the superhero and defender of the city.

Christopher Campbell's The Moviegoer - Cinema Chain Avoidance

Cinema Chain Avoidance

If I were somehow given the opportunity to host my own moviegoer-based reality show, I would have difficulty deciding what sort of show it would be. One idea is a Travel Channel show in which I'm the movie theater version of Anthony Bourdain, visiting cinemas (and former cinemas) around the world, with a concentration on celebrating moviegoing. However, the other idea is more negative, though it focuses on my desire to fix the many problems with today's theaters. On the flip side, as a movie theater version of Gordon Ramsay (or Tabatha Coffey), I would go to troubled cinemas and give them a makeover.

Worth Watching - Mar 17: Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre Trailer

Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre Trailer

Okay horror fans, this one is for you! Thanks to Twitch, the trailer for Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre has arrived, and it's about as odd and creepy as you can get for a horror/thriller set on the open sea. First things first, yes, this is in English, even though it's a Icelandic production and directed by a Icelandic filmmaker. Reykjavik Whale Watching Massacre is "an epic tale about a group of whale watchers, whose ship breaks down and they get picked up by a whale fisher vessel. The Fishbillies on the vessel have just gone bust, and everything goes out of control." It's actually looks pretty damn cool, so check it out.

Wait A Minute - Michael Bay Says Not So Fast Paramount!

Michael Bay

Woops. Someone at Paramount heard wrong. Yesterday we ran the news that Transformers 3 had been scheduled for a July 1st, 2011 release date, alongside a number of other exciting movies. But apparently Paramount jumped the gun. Michael Bay posted the following on his own official forums: "I said I was taking off a year from Transformers. Paramount made a mistake in dating Transformers 3 - they asked me on the phone - I said yes to July 4 - but for 2012 - whoops! Not 2011!!! That would mean I would have to start prep in September. No way. My brain needs a break from fighting robots." Will it be rescheduled?

Zac Efron Sort Of Confirms His Involvement in Jonny Quest

Zac Efron and Dwayne Johnson in Jonny Quest

Back in February we reported a rumor that Zac Efron was being considered for the live-action Jonny Quest movie in development at Warner Brothers. It was a solid rumor coming from legit sources, but the problem is that he is just too old. In the actual cartoon, Jonny is only 11, but Efron is 21 years old, meaning he'd be much too old for the character. Moviehole talked with Efron yesterday and got confirmation that's interested in the role, but not much more than that. "Yea, yea... It's a great idea. It'd be very fun," Efron said. That's enough for us, because we probably won't get official confirmation for at least a few months.

Jesse Eisenberg Joins Kill Your Darlings as Allen Ginsberg

Jesse Eisenberg / Allen Ginsberg

Killer Films is developing Kill Your Darlings, about the poet Allen Ginsberg and the murder that helped spawn the Beat Generation. Jesse Eisenberg (The Squid and the Whale, Adventureland) has been cast in the lead role as Ginsberg, and Chris Evans and Ben Whishaw have also joined the cast as Jack Kerouac and Lucien Carr, respectively. John Krokidas will be making his directorial debut. The script was written by Krokidas and his Yale roommate Austin Bunn. The story surrounding the murder is quite fascinating, so read on for more. This is also not related to Howl, the other Allen Ginsberg biopic starring James Franco.

Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson Talk Tintin with Top Hats

Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson Talk Tintin with Top Hats

So there is no real news in this video, but as Quint from Ain't It Cool News says, this "gives me a little geekasm" seeing two filmmaking giants like this sitting together. The official website for Tintin has posted a video of Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson talking about starting production on The Adventures of Tintin. It was recorded for the Angouleme International Comics Festival in France, which is the European equivalent to Comic-Con, that took place in January. We see these kinds of videos a lot at various cons in the US, but because Tintin is big in Europe and not in America, their focus is over there at the moment.

Minor Updates from Robert Rodriguez on Future Projects

Robert Rodriguez

Robert Rodriguez, who lives down in Austin, stopped by SXSW this week and talked with the guys over at Cinema Blend, giving them quite a few updates on numerous projects in the works. Of course, the first question anyone asks him is when we'll ever see Sin City 2, which has become a more pressing question considering all of the buzz we keep hearing people like Frank Miller and Rosario Dawson. Unfortunately it's the same story as before. "I always say Sin City 2 [is] right around the corner, because that's what everybody wants to hear and I like pleasing the audience," he admits, but, "it might be a long corner." Too bad.
