Andy Fickman Helming Monster Attack Network for Disney

Andy Fickman Helming Monster Attack Network

Coming off of Race to Witch Mountain, director Andy Fickman has been re-hired again by Disney to direct their adaptation of the Monster Attack Network graphic novel. We first announced that the comic was being brought to the big screen last year, but didn't know it would end up like this. Fickman's Race to Witch Mountain has been trashed by critics, with a fairly unimpressive 39% on Rotten Tomatoes. Peter from SlashFilm hated it, saying he "was really surprised to discover how badly directed some of the action sequences were." And (some of) you thought Watchmen was a comic book massacre, just wait until this!

Hard Boiled Sequel Might Actually Be a Prequel After All?

Hard Boiled

A week ago we brought you the news that a sequel to Hard Boiled / adaptation of the video game Stranglehold was in development at John Woo's Lion Rock Entertainment. There weren't many details, but it was exciting news nonetheless. The guys at Twitch decided to dig up some more details and went to Woo's producing partner Terence Chang. He confirms that they are developing another Hard Boiled movie, but that "it is a total reinvention, with a much younger Tequila. In other words, it is not a sequel to Hard Boiled." So does that mean it might be a prequel? Chang didn't say, but it sounds like that's the case.

Fast and the Furious Franchise Will Shift to Fifth?

Fast and Furious

The fourth installment to the double-clutching Fast and the Furious franchise isn't even out yet and folks are already talking about taking the story another step further with a fifth movie. I, like many, felt the street racing film line blew a head gasket with third film, The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, back in 2006. That film shed any association to the original storyline and brought in roughly half of what each of the first two grossed. Now that the fourth reunites most of the original crew and has decent buzz for its April 3rd release, can we believe lead Paul Walker when he says a fifth film is "beyond rumors at this point"?

Worth Watching - Mar 15: Political In the Loop Trailer

In the Loop Trailer

Yep, that's "The Sopranos'" James Gandolfini in an actual comedy, believe it or not. In the Loop is a British political comedy shot in the style of a TV show like "The Office". It actually first premiered at Sundance and got some rave reviews, even though it wasn't exactly a big hit by any means. In addition to Gandolfini, In the Loop stars Tom Hollander, David Rashe, Peter Capaldi, Anna Chulmsky, and Mimi Kennedy. Sadly, I never got to see this, but Optimum has released an official trailer for the film today and it definitely looks good. If you're a fan of British humor, than this is a must watch. Watch the trailer below.

First Look: Matt Damon in Clint Eastwood's Human Factor

First Look: Matt Damon in Clint Eastwood's Human Factor

Even at 78, filmmaker Clint Eastwood is still going strong, with Gran Torino still playing in theaters and production already started on his next feature. TheBadandUgly.com has some new shots of Matt Damon in The Human Factor, the newest project directed by Clint Eastwood about the 1995 Rugby World Cup. Damon plays rugby star Francois Pienaar, who as captain of the all-white South African rugby team led them to a victory at the world cup and gave the country's whites and blacks a common cause to rally around as they healed from years of apartheid. A few shots of Damon and company practicing can be seen below.

Ryan Reynolds Talks Enthusiastically About Playing Deadpool

Deadpool in X-Men Origins: Wolverine

With X-Men Origins: Wolverine due out in theaters in only 48 more days, discussions on all things Marvel and X-Men and Wolverine have begun to flood the web. I know I'm not the only fan who's anxious to see Ryan Reynolds as the beloved sword wielding comic book character Deadpool in the movie. Reynolds was out promoting Adventureland this weekend and talked with a couple of websites, including specifically Collider and Latino Review. Given the whole Weapon XI fiasco that arose with the newest trailer (see here for more), these were some much needed updates from Reynolds his character's involvement.

Another Brilliant Trailer for Richard Curtis' The Boat That Rocked

The Boat That Rocked Trailer

Even though we've already seen two great trailers for The Boat That Rocked, a third new one has popped up recently that is even better than the other two! Though, I've got to say, at this point I've had enough - I just want to see this! It looks so frickin' good and I'm tired of sitting through so many great trailers just to realize we've got to wait another six months to see it. I really love the way this trailer is put together, with a little bit of creative CGI magic at the beginning, and best of all, it's progression through a short story that parallels what actually happens in the movie, into a triumphant and exciting finish. Please enjoy this!

First Look: David Fincher's Animated Version of The Goon

First Look: David Fincher's Animated Version of The Goon

Last year during Comic-Con we announced that Eric Powell's cult comic The Goon was being adapted into an animated feature film by none other than David Fincher. Although I've never personally read the comic, it seems like a pretty damn good cult comic, and I'm very interested in seeing how the movie will turn out. Well thanks to Quint at Ain't It Cool News, we've finally got a first look at the first few shots from The Goon movie and it looks much better than I was expecting. Blur Studios, also behind the upcoming Heavy Metal movie, is developing this, which is one of the first complete features they're entirely behind creating.

Help Save Assassination of a High School President from DVD Doom!

Assassination of a High School President

Assassination of a High School President needs your help! Due to the collapse of Yari Film Group last December, one of the very best indie films of the last few years may end up going to straight-to-DVD unless it gets picked up by another distributor! Peter from SlashFilm called me last night to alert me that he's trying to build some buzz and prevent this disaster. While I never actually posted my top 10 films of 2008, I can tell you that Assassination of a High School President was on it. This brilliant indie film first premiered at Sundance last year and played at fests throughout 2008, gaining more supporters everywhere it went.

First Look: Marley Shelton in Jonathan Parker's Untitled

First Look: Jonathan Parker's Untitled

The reason why (Untitled) is, well, untitled, is because it's a comic satire on the state of contemporary art. Aauteur Jonathan Parker (of Bartleby and The Californians previously) presents this story about a fashionable contemporary art gallerist (played by Marley Shelton) in Chelsea, New York who falls for a brooding music composer (played by Adam Goldberg). This quietly got its world premiere at the Palm Springs International Film Festival in January, and thanks to Hollywood Elsewhere (via The Playlist), we've got a first look at Shelton and Goldberg in the film. I definitely encourage indie enthusiasts to take a look.

Observe and Report: Introducing Forest Ridge Mall Video

Observe and Report: Introducing Forest Ridge Mall Video

Warner Brothers put out a hilarious new featurette today on MySpace called "Introducing Forest Ridge Mall" in promotion of Observe and Report. As everyone knows, Seth Rogen stars as head security guard Ronnie Barnhardt at the Forest Ridge Mall. This video introduces us to all of the main characters in the movie, including Ronnie and his fellow security guards Dennis (Michael Peña), the Yuen Twins (Matt and John Yuan), and Charles (Jesse Plemons). I've got to say, I think this looks so unbelievably funny. I can't wait to see it and I'm a bit sad that I'm not down in Austin at SXSW this week for its premiere. Enjoy!
