Juan Carlos Fresnadillo Remaking Roger Corman's X

The Man With the X-Ray Eyes

Spanish director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, best known as the guy who directed 28 Weeks Later, has been hired by MGM to develop a remake of Roger Corman's 1963 horror film X: The Man With the X-Ray Eyes. The original starred Ray Milland as a scientist who is close to achieving a breakthrough in x-ray vision technology when his funding is cut off. Desperate to show results, the doc applies the eye drops to himself eventually loses control over his growing powers. It's not exactly one of Corman's greats, but it is certainly one of his classics, and I'm actually very excited to see Fresnadillo rework for modern times.

Erich von Daniken's Chariots of the Gods Being Adapted

Chariots of the Gods

So maybe aliens really have been to Earth? Paradox Entertainment has acquired screen rights Erich von Daniken's book "Chariots of the Gods". First published in 1968, the book explores evidence that different civilizations were visited by extraterrestrials. It has sold 68 million copies worldwide and also spawned a 1970 documentary. Paradox's Fredrik Malmberg and Mark Ordesky (former New Line exec who brought the Lord of the Rings to the big screen) will produce the adaptation, although no writer or director has been announced just yet. The book's premise will be turned into a big budget science fiction feature.

Arnold Talks About His Terminator and Expendables Cameos

Arnold Schwarzenegger

I've said before that this may finally be the year that we see Arnold Schwarzenegger return to the big screen, if only just briefly, but it looks like it will happen. Arnold appeared at the 2009 Arnold Classic and TheArnoldFans.com was there to ask him about appearing in both McG's Terminator Salvation and Sylvester Stallone's The Expendables. He gave a lengthy political answer to the question, but in brief, he said that he will shoot a very small cameo in Expendables and he might show up in Terminator, but he doesn't want McG to sell the movie based entirely on his appearance. I don't think that'll be a problem!

Official Trailer for Michael Chabon's Mysteries of Pittsburgh

The Mysteries of Pittsburgh Trailer

After more than a year of waiting, Peace Arch has finally debuted the official trailer for The Mysteries of Pittsburgh. Yes, this is based on Michael Chabon's novel of the same name, and it first premiered at Sundance back in 2008. Although it got slammed by critics, I caught it at the tale end of the fest and actually really enjoyed it, probably more than I should have. It's a very unusual story but it's made up of great performances, specifically from lead Jon Foster and supporting actor Peter Sarsgaard. Oh and I guess I'll say if you like Sienna Miller you better watch this trailer as well - you'll know why once you watch this.

Disney Releasing The Princess and the Frog Limited in November First!

The Princess and the Frog

Well, this is a bit odd. Disney is releasing their upcoming hand drawn animated movie, The Princess and the Frog, in only New York and Los Angeles on November 25th, Thanksgiving week. Following that initial debut, they'll open it wide in theaters across the country on December 11th. While I could criticize this decision, it's actually very smart, for multiple reasons, and I think Disney will have a big hit on their hands, even though they don't know it. See, I think they're actually very worried about the success of The Princess and the Frog, because it is hand drawn animation and they think no one wants to see that.

Rant: Is Summit Screwing Over Alex Proyas' Knowing?

Knowing

Let me preface this by saying that the last time I wrote an article about something like this (Fox and Taken), I ending up being wrong, so this could all just be another erroneous prediction, but it's on my mind, so why not write about it. Dark City director Alex Proyas' next film Knowing opens in theaters on March 20th, in just a few more weeks. The only problem is that the buzz it currently has is all negative. And I think it's going to kill it because Summit isn't doing anything about it. On one hand, they're trying to keep the ending a secret and prevent negative reviews from hitting, but on the other, they're not giving it a chance.

Michael Bay Wants Frank Welker as Soundwave!

Frank Welker as Soundwave

Voice actor Frank Welker, who has voiced everything from Abu in Aladdin to Tokka and Rahzar in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to Nibbler in "Futurama" to, most importantly, Megatron and Soundwave in the Transformers cartoons, will be back to provide his voice in Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. On his own official forums, Michael Bay wrote that, "I think I'm going to pursue Frank on Soundwave," after fans kept requesting that Welker return. A few weeks ago we confirmed that Hugo Weaving was back as the voice of Megatron, which was one of Welker's original characters that he didn't voice in the movie.

Will Alexander Skarsgard Be Kenneth Branagh's Thor?

Alexander Skarsgard as Thor

Ever since it was first announced that Thor was coming to the big screen, fans have been debating endlessly over who would be a perfect Norse God of Thunder. We've heard Kevin McKidd's name tossed around before, but Latino Review has a new scoop today that seems quite solid. They say that Alexander Skarsgård, son of actor Stellan Skarsgård, has been meeting with Thor director Kenneth Branagh and that this isn't the first time they've heard his name brought up. While it's not official, they've gone to lengths to confirm that meetings have taken place, and if you look at that photo above, it might just make sense.

Five More to Stay at Whedon's Cabin in the Woods

Five More to Stay at Whedon's Cabin in the Woods

A while back we covered a little bit of rumor mill fodder regarding the forthcoming genre-subverting, Joss Whedon-written, Drew Goddard-directed horror film Cabin in the Woods. Well, THR is reporting some official casting decisions five times over. Joining the previously announced duo of Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford are actors Kristen Connolly (Revolutionary Road), Chris Hemsworth (Star Trek), Anna Hutchison ("Underbelly"), Fran Kranz ("Dollhouse"), and Jesse Williams ("Beyond the Break"). As for the characters that this gaggle will be playing, that's being strictly withheld by the filmmakers.

Vin Diesel Finally Talks About Another Riddick Movie Again

Riddick

It was last August when Vin Diesel promised that we'd see at least two more Chronicles of Riddick movies. We haven't heard too much since then, though in the meantime, in addition to starring in Fast & Furious, Diesel has been helping develop the popular Riddick video game series. Diesel spoke with GameSpot recently about the latest game, Assault on Dark Athena, and gave them a much needed update on the status of another movie. "Maybe we're too tight-lipped about the next Chronicles of Riddick film, and I think circa the release of [Dark Athena] that's probably when you'll start hearing more about [it]."

G4's Watchmen Debate - Drew McWeeny vs Dave Poland

G4's Watchmen Debate - Drew McWeeny vs Dave Poland

In the online world there are numerous rivalries amongst various writers, that just comes with the job, but rarely do we ever get to see two rivals go head-to-head in a actual, legitimate debate. G4 setup a live debate on "Attack of the Show" tonight between HitFix editor Drew McWeeny and MCN editor Dave Poland on Watchmen and it's quite entertaining to watch. Both are very big fans of the graphic novel and very familiar with it, however McWeeny appreciated and enjoyed the film whereas Poland did not. For just under 8 minutes, the two argue about the merits of the film and Zack Snyder's directorial choices and more.
