David Ayer Directing Futuristic Action Movie Last Man

David Ayer

New Regency has bought a pitch from David Ayer (seen above) for a futuristic action movie called Last Man. In the movie, a hardened captain assigned to protect an outpost on a distant planet must lead a group of young, inexperienced American soldiers in battle against an alien race. Ayer will write the script and eventually direct, with Erwin Stoff (A Scanner Darkly, The Day the Earth Stood Still) and Scott Stuber (The Kingdom, Role Models) producing. The concept in this reminds me a bit of Starship Troopers, although since we don't know anything else about the story, I've got a feeling it will be nothing like that in the end.

Milla Jovovich Starring in Horror Feature Mile Zero

Milla Jovovich

Speaking of Milla Jovovich, the actress has been cast in another upcoming horror project called Mile Zero. The screenplay, written by newcomer Holly Brix, is about a young woman who takes a job on an Alaskan oil rig so she can prove her father's innocence in a series of murders. Deception director Marcel Langenegger has been hired to develop the feature, which means he'll most likely work on revising the script before eventually directing it. Benderspink and Phoenix Picture are producing. Call me crazy, but I actually love a good arctic horror feature with a beautiful leading lady, which is why I want to see Whiteout.

Sundance's Anvil! The Story of Anvil Documentary Trailer

Anvil! The Story of Anvil Trailer

It's taken more than a year for the Sundance sensation Anvil! The Story of Anvil to finally hit theaters, but of course, some will say it's worth the wait. This documentary follows the metal band Anvil, now in their fifties, as they reunite to record their 13th album and tour Europe in one last attempt to fulfill their boyhood dreams. I never got to see it, but everyone who did walked out loving it, saying it was one of the best documentaries they saw that year, even if they hated metal before. We finally have a trailer for it and it certainly does look as good as everyone is saying. If you're already interested, then check out the trailer.

First Look: Milla Jovovich in Twohy's A Perfect Getaway

First Look: Milla Jovovich in Twohy's A Perfect Getaway

Chronicles of Riddick director David Twohy's latest film is thriller called A Perfect Getaway. It stars Milla Jovovich and Steve Zahn as two lovers on honeymoon in Hawaii who discover they're being stalked by a pair of killers, played by Kiele Sanchez and Timothy Olyphant. Seems like a twisted and tropical mix of Funny Games and The Strangers. This was originally supposed to hit theaters this week, but Universal has since pushed it back to mid-August. To keep us excited, Twohy himself has posted two photos of his leading ladies, Jovovich and Sanchez, over on his official blog, which are the very first photos from the film.

Rumor: Marvel's Fantastic Four Being Rebooted, Too?!

Fantastic Four

Superheroes are hot in Hollywood right now. And 20th Century Fox is not. Although Watchmen didn't break any records (it only made $55.7 million opening weekend), it did fare pretty well and has caused quite a bit of commotion. On the other side of town, however, Fox is still stuck in a rut trying to figure out how they can actually make money again (besides suing other studios). They're already working on rebooting both Daredevil and Planet of the Apes, so why not reboot another nearly dead superhero franchise - Fantastic Four? According to IESB, a reboot is in the works, complete with a new director and a new cast.

Christopher Campbell's The Moviegoer - Cinema Chain Loyalty

AMC Empire 25

Do you have any brand loyalty when it comes to movie theaters? I ask this because of the recent news that former Starbucks exec Gerald Lopez has been made head of AMC Theaters, the second-largest cinema chain in North America. Of course, Starbucks may not be a company you think of in terms of loyalty so much as addiction, since people primarily seem to go there either because the coffee chain has taken over their market or because it hooks them with higher doses of caffeine. But thinking of analogous ideas Lopez could implement at AMC, perhaps we'll soon be eating narcotic-supplemented popcorn?

Producer Says Green Lantern Will Be More Like Iron Man

Green Lantern

With production on a big screen Green Lantern movie supposedly starting in the next few months in order for it to make its December 17th, 2010 release date, DC Comics and Green Lantern fans are getting quite antsy. Producer Donald De Line showed up at a recent press event for I Love You, Man over the weekend, and was drilled about all things Green Lantern. The response that has been riling up fans the most was in regards to whether or not this would be like Iron Man instead of The Dark Knight. "I would say the tone absolutely wants to live in that kind of a world," De Line said. "So it's not dark in that regard."

Last year we exclusively revealed early details on a project that director Gavin O'Connor (Miracle, Pride and Glory) had in the works called Warrior, a drama set in the world of mixed martial arts. The story is about a family and two brothers, and O'Connor has finally found his cast. Warrior will be headlined by Nick Nolte, who will play the estranged father. Dakota Fanning Officially Joins Twilight's New Moon Cast

Dakota Fanning Officially Joins Twilight's New Moon Cast

Not that this will really have any major impact on the eventual box office totals for The Twilight Saga: New Moon, but it looks like 15-year-old actress Dakota Fanning will indeed appear in New Moon after all. It was first rumored in January that she was interested in joining, but confirmed only recently by People magazine. Fanning will play the character Jane, a sinister vampire with an angelic exterior who works for the Volturi. Fanning as a bad girl? Okay, maybe I am more interested in this than I should be? But then again, I don't know anything about the Twilight series at all. Is her character really that bad anyway?

Must Watch: Jackie Chan in Shinjuku Incident Trailer

Jackie Chan in Shinjuku Incident Trailer

Before you immediately sigh and click past this trailer just because Jackie Chan is in it, stop and give it a chance! In Shinjuku Incident, Chan stars as a Chinese refugee who ends up in Tokyo and gets embroiled in the local Yakuza gang culture. In essence, it's Jackie Chan vs the Yakuza, which once you see this trailer, you'll understand how badass that is! And best of all, it looks like Jackie Chan is finally returning to form! I really miss the good old days where Chan used to be a hard-edged badass who starred in R-rated films that barely showed in US theaters (e.g. Rumble in the Bronx). Could this finally be a trip back to those days?

John Woo's Hard Boiled Getting a Big Screen Sequel

Stranglehold

We haven't seen much from Hong Kong director John Woo since he directed Paycheck in 2003, and that's because he's been developing his two-part epic Red Cliff in China for the last few years. However, hidden in a THR article (via SlashFilm) was a tidbit about Woo's Lion Rock Entertainment developing a sequel to Hard Boiled and/or adaptation of the video game Stranglehold. The game was created as a continuation of Woo's original Hard Boiled, which hit theaters in 1992, so it's the same thing as a sequel. While Woo isn't directing, he has hired budding writers Jeremy Passmore and Andre Fabrizio to pen the adaptation.
