Matthew McConaughey Will Become The Lincoln Lawyer
Lakeshore Entertainment has announced that Matthew McConaughey will star in their upcoming adaptation of The Lincoln Lawyer. Based on Michael Connolly's 2005 novel of the same name, The Lincoln Lawyer is a legal thriller that centers on low-level criminal defense attorney Mickey Haller who finds himself representing a wealthy client with ties to a previous murder case Haller handled. It looks like the screenplay was written by John Romano, of The Third Miracle and Nights in Rodanthe previously, although no director is attached to this just yet. We'll let you know when we know more about this.

Early Teaser Poster for Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island
We haven't seen or heard much about Martin Scorsese's Shutter Island just yet, but once the summer is over, it'll be one of those movies that everyone is talking about. Shutter Island is slated for release on October 2nd, but the guys over at Rope of Silicon have dug up a very early teaser poster with some basic teaser art that has at least captured my attention. Though, to be honest, I actually think this looks fake (even though it probably is real). I'm not sure why, it just looks like it was poorly Photoshopped, but maybe we just need a high res version. Anyway, I'm sure we'll see more from this soon enough. Check it out anyway!

Monsters vs Aliens Review - Another DreamWorks Blunder
I gave it a fair shot, I really did. I am a Pixar fanboy at heart, but I got that way because they've put out consistently incredible movies. DreamWorks Animation, on the other hand, has had only three movies that I've ever enjoyed - Shrek, Shrek 2, and Kung Fu Panda. They've consistently released what I consider to be completely dull, mindless, and un-entertaining animated crap, that is sadly eaten up by American audiences. Unfortunately, DreamWorks' latest feature, Monsters vs Aliens, is no different, despite my hopes and desires that they'd finally uncovered the secret to good movies last year with Kung Fu Panda.

Rhys Ifans as Xeno Lovegood in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows
Although Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince isn't out until July, Warner Brothers has already started shooting Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, primarily because they want to release that split finale back-to-back in 2010 and 2011. Welsh actor Rhys Ifans announced on the "Friday Night with Jonathan Ross" TV show (see YouTube) that he will appear in Deathly Hallows. While he didn't reveal which character he would be playing on the show, The Leaky Cauldron has separately confirmed that Ifans will play Xenophilius Lovegood, Luna Lovegood's father and the editor-in-chief of The Quibbler.

Tobey Maguire to Become a Grand Prix Driver in The Limit
From Peter Parker to jockey Red Pollard to Peter Parker (again) to a Grand Prix driver Phil Hill. Columbia Pictures has announced that Tobey Maguire will both produce and star in the project The Limit. The film tells the story of friends and rivals Phil Hill (who Maguire will play) and Wolfgang von Trips, two Grand Prix drivers on the Ferrari team, who were seated against one another during the 1961 Driver's Championship. Columbia is in final negotiations to pick up the project while up-and-comer Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes, The Human Factor) will write the screenplay, based on the forthcoming book by Michael Cannell.

Is The Crazies the First Film to Post Live Twitter Updates?
It seem as if the whole world is caught up in a Twitter craze right now, with celebrities, directors, movie studios, and everyone else you can think of joining the ranks. It's a popular service, no doubt, and quite fun and sometimes informative. While we've seen directors (like Jon Favreau) and studios (like Lionsgate and Miramax) use Twitter successfully, the first actual film I've seen that has been trying to take advantage of the hype is The Crazies, an upcoming remake of George Romero's 1973 thriller. Not only have they been posting photos from the set (which is very rare), but they even gave away a set visit and walk-on role.

First Look: Johnny Depp as Paul Kemp in The Rum Diary
By now, everyone knows about The Rum Diary, the next film that Johnny Depp is currently shooting in Puerto Rico. PopSugar debuted the photo, which they say comes from the set in Miami, not Puerto Rico (that one above is not Depp, but Thompson). This is pretty much your standard shot of Depp, except that he kind of looks like Tom Cruise this time, sitting in a vintage convertible. The Rum Diary sounds like a great project, another adaptation of a Hunter S. Thompson story, this time about freelance journalist who starts writing for a newspaper in the Caribbean. While this photo isn't much, it's at least pretty cool to see.

New Featurette for Pixar's UP: Discovering a Lost World
Disney has released a new featurette titled Inside Up: Discovering a Lost World on IGN today that looks at what went into creating the South American jungle that Carl and Russell end up at in Pixar's Up. This is why I love Pixar and everything they do. And yes, I'm happy to give more exposure to a Pixar movie on the very day that DreamWorks Animation's Monsters vs Aliens hits theaters, because they have such an extreme amount of passion for what they do. And if you're one of those people that are skeptical about Up, then please watch this, as it'll give you a better idea of the story and inspiration behind Pixar's latest work of art.

Another Official Artsy Star Trek Poster Revealed
Yesterday we debuted a new poster for J.J. Abrams' Star Trek, but it was supposedly only a UK poster. Paramount has unveiled the official US poster for Star Trek today on MySpace, and it's complete change of pace from the UK one. Strangely enough, this poster actually showed up on TrekMovie yesterday, but it was listed as the German poster. Now MySpace is saying it's the "final theatrical one-sheet," although I can't imagine Paramount wants to use a poster like this without a single face on it to sell American audiences on their big summer sci-fi movie. Whatever, I actually love the look of this poster anyway. Check it out!

Kevin's Review: Sin Nombre - Anything But Nameless
The topic of illegal immigration from Mexico can be a pretty heated one at times. But if you put politics aside, it's hard to deny the intrinsic hope and optimism that is often lost in the debate - that these people are simply striving and struggling for a better life. And by "these people," I'm not just talking about immigrants directly from Mexico, but also those that come from deeper parts of Central America. When newcomer director Cary Fukunaga worked on his short film Victoria para chino in 2004, he learned that for many immigrants, crossing the border into the United States was in a lot of ways the least of their worries.

Linklater Finally Shooting His Dazed and Confused Follow-Up?
Is it time to go all the way back to 1976 again? Nope, just 1980. Way back in March of 2007, we wrote about news that Richard Linklater was working on a follow-up to his cult classic Dazed and Confused about his "freshmen year in college." Well, nearly two years later, it looks like he's finally getting around to shooting it. Linklater attended a recent screening of Dazed and Confused in Austin and talked afterward at the Q&A (via CHUD) about his next project, a "sort of spiritual sequel" to Dazed and Confused. No time for the return of School of Rock, it's Dazed and Confused that will be making its spiritual comeback.

Tony Scott Directing an Unstoppable Train Action Movie
An action movie about a train?! This is both the worst idea and best idea I've ever heard! Tony Scott has signed on to direct a thriller called Unstoppable for Fox as his next feature following The Taking of Pelham 123. Scott is working with screenwriter Mark Bomback (Live Free or Die Hard, Deception, Race to Witch Mountain) to get the script ready for shooting later this year. The story follows a rail company that tries frantically to stop an unmanned, half-mile-long freight train carrying enough combustible liquids and poisonous gas to wipe out a nearby city. I really hope some sort of terrorists are secretly involved!
