Zac Efron to Star in The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud

Zac Efron

We just announced earlier this week that Zac Efron was ditching the Footloose remake, and at the time, we didn't know what his replacement gig would be. Variety is reporting that Efron will re-team with 17 Again director Burr Steers on an adaptation of Ben Sherwood's novel "The Death and Life of Charlie St. Cloud". The book is about caretaker at a cemetery who manages to have weekly meetings with a younger brother (read: ghost) whose accidental death he feels was his fault. The most current draft of the script was written by Craig Pearce, with Burr Steers working on polishing up the script for Efron's involvement.

Fun Monsters vs Aliens vs Cloverfield Viral Video

Fun Monsters vs Aliens vs Cloverfield Viral Video

We may be featuring this a bit too late in the game, but on the site TopSecretConspiracy.com (found via io9), they've posted a fun little video mocking Cloverfield featuring the Monsters vs Aliens characters. I know this is super cheesy and not that exciting, but I'm a viral nut, and I thought it was cool enough to share with all of you. I saw Monsters vs Aliens over the weekend and it was okay, not that great, but worth seeing for the characters and the 3-D (dare I say it). Anyway, I think this entire TopSecretConspiracy.com is a mini-viral site dedicated to all things Monsters vs Aliens and conspiracies, so check it out and enjoy!

Miyazaki's Ponyo on the Cliff Coming to Theaters in August

Ponyo on the Cliff

Disney will finally be bringing Hayao Miyazaki's latest film, Ponyo on the Cliff, to theaters on August 14th later this year. Unfortunately, the version we'll all be seeing will have dubbed voices instead of subtitles (I prefer to watch all of Miyazaki's films with subtitles and original Japanese audio). Ponyo on the Cliff actually opened in Japan in July of last year and has already earned ¥15.0 billion, which is about $153 million. Disney's John Lasseter has been working with Spielberg's producers Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy to make this release Miyazaki's "biggest hit ever Stateside." Mark this down in your calendar!

Resist Or Be Terminated - Skynet Research Viral Updates

Resist Or Be Terminated

No, it's not Judgment Day just yet (that's not until May), but some viral marketing updates have started to hit on the Terminator Salvation front. So far we've covered the Skynet Research website quite extensively, but since it appeared in February, there haven't been any major updates to the site besides all the basics. As we all know, Skynet (or Cyberdyne) is the company that gains control over the machines and starts the war against the humans. So they're not on our side. And someone inside the company has started to alert us of who they are and what exactly they're trying to do - Resist Or Be Terminated.

First Full Trailer for Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs

Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs Trailer

This officially debuts tomorrow morning, but our friends at Trailer Addict have already launched the newest full trailer for Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs. With DreamWorks Animation's Monsters vs Aliens opening this weekend, all the other big studios are launching trailers for their own upcoming animated movies. We saw Summit's new Astro Boy teaser earlier today, and now we've got Fox's Ice Age 3. Although I loved the first Ice Age, I've completely lost all interest in this series, and probably won't even see this in theaters. I feel like they've stretched the story and the characters way too thin, but that's just me.

Will We See a Different Michel Gondry for Green Hornet?

Michel Gondry

Seth Rogen has been doing the rounds this week, talking with press for Observe and Report, so after staring in awe at how thin he's become, the next most popular question is always about The Green Hornet, his passion project that he's starting up in June. Collider was the latest to get in touch with Rogen and focused on the choice of director - Michel Gondry. If you know who Gondry is, you already know his style, that low-budget feel with cardboard sets and other imaginative and quirky designs. It worked for The Science of Sleep, but doesn't really work for The Green Hornet, but thankfully that doesn't matter.

Newest Beautiful Angels and Demons Poster Hits

Newest Beautiful Angels and Demons Poster Hits

There's juts something I love about all the posters for Angels & Demons we've seen so far. They're somewhat minimalistic, don't involve floating heads, have great color choices, and overall just look very polished, which I personally love seeing in a poster since we get so many of them are just a mess. This newest one features Tom Hanks as Robert Langdon standing in a crowded Vatican Square surrounded by Cardinals all wearing red. I really love the very minimal use color in this, with the focus on red, as it actually brings out Hanks a lot more. As great as all this looks, I just hope it leads to a successful opening.

Taye Diggs Joins Dead of Night as the Lead Vampire

Taye Diggs

Former Broadway singer Taye Diggs doesn't appear on the big screen that often. He was in Rent most recently, and Basic, Chicago and Equilibrium before that. However, ShockTillYouDrop has learned that Diggs has joined the cast of Dead of Night, the live-action movie based on the Dylan Dog comics that Kevin Munroe is directing. Apparently Diggs will play the leader of the vampires, the primary villain in the movie, which not only features plenty of vampires, but zombies and werewolves as well. We already know that Brandon Routh is playing the lead role as Dylan Dog and starring as his sidekick is Sam Huntington.

The Film Feed: Episode 07 - Because I Don't Like Sean That Much

The Film Feed

In this episode of The Film Feed, Will and Clark cope with Sean's proximity to the microphone and having too many movies to review in a single episode. In the first half, the guys discuss the comparison of Year One to Life of Brian, rumors regarding the casting of Hal Jordan in Green Lantern, and Will fawns over Joel and Ethan Coen. In the latter half, Will and Clark review Sunshine Cleaning and debate the merits of the Alex Proyas' film Knowing. Sean joins in for a review of I Love You, Man to round out the episode, which inspires discussion concerning the rating and pacing. Thanks for listening and be sure to tune in every week.

Must Watch: Second Astro Boy Teaser Trailer

Astro Boy Teaser Trailer

Summit Entertainment has debuted the second teaser trailer for Imagi's Astro Boy animated movie on Hulu. This is a vast improvement over that original teaser, with more scenes, more footage, and less of the cheesy animation that I'm so worried about. I'm actually really digging the way this looks now and have a feeling we're all going to be in for a treat in October. I know I'm going to get torn to shreds by making this comparison, but in a very basic sense, Astro Boy seems a lot like Iron Man for the kids, with a kid who is actually a robot, not inside of a robot, first getting his bearings and everything. Anyway, check this out!

Bryan Singer Circling New Regency's Freedom Formula

Freedom Formula Comic

Fox and New Regency are developing an adaptation of the comic book series "Freedom Formula: Ghost of the Wasteland." Newcomer Michael Finch, who sold his first script Medieval for six figures a few weeks ago, will write the screenplay for Freedom Formula, while Bryan Singer is being eyed as director. Radical Publishing, who prints the series, teamed up with Singer last year at Comic-Con. The futuristic comic series is about pilots who battle in racing exo-suits called Vicious Cycles (VXs). One of the young racers, Zee, is a genetically engineered racer who learns his bloodline has the power to change society.
