Suggested Reading: Wolverine - The Fiery Rage of Logan
Hello again! I am back, Roman, your comic book guide to the stars. We haven't spoken since Watchmen and I have to say that it's certainly good to be back again in time for the summer. In this latest installment of Suggested Reading, we'll be looking back at the world's favorite X-Men - Wolverine. That name is synonymous with the X-Men. He is getting to be as recognizable as Superman or Spider-Man. People who have never read an X-Men comic can tell you who Wolverine is. There are a lot of layers to the old man, and we're going to touch on a few today, but first I'll tell you about my love for this savage, yet noble character.

Indie Acquisitions: Drew Barrymore's Whip It, Patton Oswalt's Big Fan
I thought I'd group together a few various indie film acquisitions today, since there are at least two worth mentioning. Drew Barrymore's Whip It, starring Ellen Page and Marcia Gay Harden, was picked up by Fox Searchlight (via Rope of Silicon). Early word is that they'll be releasing it on October 9th (I'm guessing it will premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival). Additionally, The Wrestler writer Robert Siegel's directorial debut, Big Fan, starring Patton Oswalt that premiered at Sundance this year, was picked up by First Independent Pictures and will hit limited theaters in late summer to early fall (via indieWIRE).

First Official Photo from Jon Favreau's Iron Man 2!
Exactly as Jon Favreau promised on twitter, the first official photo from Iron Man 2 has been unveiled tonight over at USA Today. Although I wasn't expecting to see much, this is actually an awesome first photo, giving us a big hint that Tony Stark may be building a "Hall of Armor" of Iron Man suits, just like in the comics. But of course, we won't know more details about that or even know how many different suits he has until we get to see Iron Man 2 next summer. "It's never easy with summer movies, but we're trying to keep as much a surprise as possible," Favreau says. Without further ado, check out the first official photo!

First Creepy Photos from French Creature Feature The Pack
Well now doesn't this just look creepy! The guys over at Twitch were sent over the first few photos from a new French creature feature called The Pack. This is the first time I've ever heard of this film, but it looks pretty damn creepy, and I'll probably be keeping an eye on it from this point forward. The Pack is written and directed by first-time French filmmaker Franck Richard. The film was shooting in Belgium for the past few months, but has recently finished and moved into post-production. The special effects are being handled by Atelier 69, the same company behind Frontier(s), Mutants, The Horde, and High Lane. Interested?

Paramount has debuted the full theatrical trailer for Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, this summer's most highly anticipated sequel to Michael Bay's 2007 summer hit. Kenneth Branagh Finally Shooting Thor Next January?!
We know Marvel is currently shooting Iron Man 2 as we speak with Jon Favreau. And we know they're still working on The Avengers for 2012 sometime. But what about Thor? It got pushed back all the way to 2011, to allow more time for Kenneth Branagh and the creative team at Marvel to figure things out. But even though it was delayed, Branagh says he's on track to start shooting next January. IGN caught up with the actor/director recently and got a very brief update. "Well, I'm working currently on Thor for Marvel and we're planning that one. We're having a great time at the moment. We're in intense pre-production."

Mike Newell in Talks to Direct Disney's The Lone Ranger?
Some news on Disney's The Lone Ranger, finally! The last time we heard anything about this was last year at a big Disney presentation in Hollywood. There they announced that not only would Johnny Depp be back to play Captain Jack Sparrow in Pirates of the Caribbean 4, but that Depp would also play Tonto in the upcoming Lone Ranger movie. But since then, we haven't heard a peep. Well, according to a Twitter update from Production Weekly, Mike Newell is "in talks" to take the reigns of Lone Ranger. Newell, who previously directed Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, is currently finishing Prince of Persia for Disney.

Full New International Trailer for G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra
Although the official US trailer is due out tomorrow, we just couldn't contain our excitement in showing you this international trailer for G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra. Yes, we're joking, but really, I think everyone needs to see this. I'm actually slightly more impressed by this trailer than I was by the footage we were shown at ShoWest. That's because I'm used to those bio-suits and how ridiculously cheesy they look, but for all of you who haven't seen them, have at it. There's not much more I need to say besides that I suggest you just try and go along with this, and suspend your disbelief as much as you humanly can, and maybe you'll enjoy it.

David Slade to Direct Killer Amphibians Flick Cold Skin
30 Days of Night director David Slade, most recently attributed to his attachment to tween-screech-inducing The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, is set to return to the snow in order to helm Cold Skin. Based on the bestselling Spanish novel of the same name written by Albert Sánchez Piñol, Cold Skin is an Antarctic horror/psychological thriller set on a bleak, barren island. The fairly effects-heavy pic is prepped to shoot in March of 2010 and is reportedly getting a modest budget of about $25 million. It's unknown just how faithful Jesus Olmo's script will be to the novel, but below is a good synopsis straight from Amazon.

Zhang Yimou Moving Forward with Three Guns Next
Chinese filmmaker Zhang Yimou, the creator/director/orchestrator and all-around genius behind the 2008 Summer Olympic Games' opening ceremony in Beijing, is starting work on his next film, called Amazing Tales - Three Guns, as reported by Variety today. The film is going to be part thriller, part comedy, and all visually stunning - if his previous films (House of Flying Daggers, Jet Li's Hero, Curse of the Golden Flower) are any indication. But the plot thickens. Those cinematic sleuths over at SlashFilm are reporting that Three Guns may actually be a remake of the Coen Brothers' first film Blood Simple.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Rainn Wilson, and Natalie Portman in Hesher
Well this just shot to the top of my most anticipated indie projects! Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Rainn Wilson have joined Natalie Portman in the indie dramedy Hesher, being directed by Spencer Susser. The story centers on a loser twenty-something (Gordon-Levitt) who invades the life of an awkward 13-year-old boy who is living with a pill-popping father and grandmother. Wilson will play the dad trying to keep his family together after the death of his wife. Portman, who is producing the film with Lucy Cooper, will play a supermarket worker for whom the kid falls for after she saves him from a bully. Read on for more details.
