Official Trailer for Timothy Linh Bui's Powder Blue
April 2, 2009
Source: Official Website
by Alex Billington
A few of you may recall hearing the title Powder Blue before, and that's probably because when we last heard about it, it was because Jessica Biel had joined the cast as a stripper. Well, good news, the official trailer has debuted, but it's about a lot more than just a stripper. Forest Whitaker, Ray Liotta, Eddie Redmayne, and Patrick Swayze all star in this as well. Powder Blue is one of those ensemble indie films about four Los Angeles locals who are brought together on Christmas Eve by a series of depressing circumstances. It doesn't look that great, but it looks better than most indies out there. Take a look!
Watch the red band treaser trailer for Bruno:
Several Angelenos meet on Christmas Eve through chance, tragedy and divine intervention: a sleazy owner of the strip club, a mortician who falls in love with a stripper, the head of a corporate crime organization, a suicidal ex-priest, and a transsexual prostitute who shares an unexpected bond.
Powder Blue is both written and directed by Vietnamese director Timothy Linh Bui, of only a film called Green Dragon previously. Also credited for helping write the story is Stephane Gauger, of Owl and the Sparrow previously. This showed at the American Film Market last year, where it was picked up by Speakeasy Releasing. Powder Blue will playing in very limited theaters starting on April 24th.

All the emotional dialog cut for this trailer sounds so common and pedestrian. We've all been taught that priests are good and strippers are bad, but after growing up hopefully we realize there are more things at stake than being "good" or "bad". We need to find more ways to express confliction, and I suggest listening to Jonathan Coulton. I'd rather listen to a happy song about vampire suicide than watch another god-damn tear-jerking indie film.

And what the fuck Patrick Swayze :DDD
Seems a bit like a "crash/babel/closer"-mix. Which doesnt mean bad, but doesnt seem that amazing either!

Hmm this looks like it could be good, but I'm worried it's going to suffer from the "let's pack as many big name stars into a movie and it'll be popular" syndrome.
